This relates to another post I put up yesterday. Sorry if redundant, but it occurs to me that this could have to do with quality settings so I wanted to start a different thread. Here’s yesterday’s post - it includes a screen shot of some awful looking text:
I’ve set quality settings as low as possible to accomodate lousy graphics cards and am wondering if I have set them so low that this could actually effect text rendering in some cases? Attaching the current settings. The app (“game”) runs in a Web Player.
Unfortuantely, I will have to get my customer to try it out. I can not replicate the problem on my end. Just wondering if anyone thinks quality settings could actually effect text display. I know that quality setting effect images etc, but I would not have expected it to effect text???
If you use graphics emulation you should be able to see the effect it causes, on top of using the lowest quality setting? I’ve not got into using special fonts and such yet, just looked at it briefly and doesn’t it create a texture of all the characters available? So in theory I suppose it could effect those too (but shouldn’t really, considering how quickly such a thing would break with lower resolutions of it).
Edit: Ok ignore that, just tried it and lower settings had no effects on text, so probably isn’t that.
I just read through your other thread, the guy has no DirectX? Ok I’m just guessing now, but doesn’t Unity run in OGL mode in those cases? So… it’s possible a shader doesn’t have an OpenGL version, or the clients machine is so old it’s an old version of that too. I get the impression the fault is the client using a very outdated or incorrectly installed system.
That was my first reaction when I learned of their system information, but what’s perplexing is that our 3D graphics runs fine on this antiquated machine. Its just the text that’s a problem!
They no doubt should update their drivers etc, but unfortunately in education (which is what our stuff is for) these issues are common. So, if I can crack this without forcing him to do anything that would be a very good thing. And since the 3D graphics works, I have to believe the text issue is not monumental (fingers crossed).
