First, remove your screenshots you have in this post as it does your game “NO JUSTICE”! A few in game screenshots replaced in this post would undoubtedly entice many more people to play your game. The user who indicated your laziness from not rotating the trees would have surely not noticed the trees had he actually played the game instead of just looking at unnaturally lit screenshots posted above.
Second, You did not say we should play this game while alone at home in the middle of a forest with no neighbors for miles in the middle of the night. YOU BASTARD! Truly, it was a nice shock horror game and better than most I’ve seen where attempts were made with Unity to do so.
I ended up giving up with a can of gasoline and a flower. After completing the cross on the wall with the gem, I searched every area of the house twice with no where to go. Just not enough clues and by that time, having to go through every nook and cranny of the same area I had been in on 3 or 4 occasions before just so I know I’m double checking, was very frustrating. Maybe try blocking off areas of the house that no longer give any items or clues to reduce user frustration. To illustrate, how many times in your life, have you gone to your refrigerator, knowing you haven’t gone shopping for food but hoping you will find something you didn’t see last time you checked. Now, imagine this time, you are very very very hungry for food, you open the fridge and DAMNIT!!! still no food!!! WTF!!!. How upset were you? Now take that feeling and put it in your player’s mindset when they are looking for items. How frustrating to constantly go back to the same doors repeatedly, even checking doors again and again if they are locked just to see if a door was magically opened by the magical upside down cross with the magical gem in the middle. LMAO!
The controls are very frustrating. The player continuously gets stuck on jagged edges, around doors or entryways, e.g. going up around the corner on the stairs. Needs to be more fluid.
I constantly felt like the player was leaning to one side and sometimes the flashlight would be way too far to the right. It’s very disorienting to say the least. Maybe that’s a good thing for this type of game, maybe not, I’m not expert at shock flicks, but this was just a user experience I’m giving you.
I agree with the user that says enough with the cheap scare thrills. I think I ran into 4 or 5 jump out and scare pictures. I think a replacement to that would be a camera focus moving to a distant yet indistinct scene happening in the background. Or maybe a ghostly figure walking at the end of a hall. Anything BUT a picture jumping into focus directly in front of you. If you are going to do that, use something other than a picture… maybe a lamp falling in front of you or something falling that stays there so the player, when returning, will remember that object. Instead, every time I went back where the scare pranks were, there was nothing left.
Other than my worthless two cents I just gave you, I say bravo! very well made game and it kept me playing for a good 30 minutes at minimum which is rare for me since I’m not a gamer, just a game developer.
My recommendation for you: This may be your first game, but the story is very good and your atmosphere is really together. I suggest putting in some more content and turn this into a fully fledged purchasable game app for mobile.
