Question for you all, I’m currently doing a project and wondered the best way to achieve going from sitting in a cockpit to moving around a room, the 2 option’s I can think of is.
1 - Create my room far away and on another camera layer and switch between the layers
2 - Create 2 scene’s and switch between them (not sure if this is the best way).
I’m doing an asteroid mining game where you can enter a ship (Cockpit view) and then dock to your station and then walk round your cabin where you can use a computer etc.
Option 1 is probably the way to go, although you don’t have to move it far away if it’s on another layer. Just set each of your cameras to not render the other layer and you’re good to go.
I think I’d prefer option 2 if they’re conceptually separate areas – in space for the cockpit, and on solid ground for the station. The clean division would keep things simpler for me, rather than coordinating a dual-purpose scene with multiple cameras and layer masks.
For a more graceful transition, you could use a simple fade-to-black script just before switching scenes and then fade back into the new scene.
