Question about buying Pro

Ok so my company has started purchasing Pro licenses for my buissness unit. Unfortunatly all purchases have to go through our software purchasing department. So the actual license is not under my name/e-mail. So how will I know when I can get 3.0 or if I have access to 3.0 beta?

I think there needs to be a license managment online where we can type in our license number and manage our contact e-mail and such. Does that sort of thing exist?

Also, my company is 44,000+ people and obviously there are departments I have never even heard of doing things I could never know about. So is it possible to send a request to Untiy to tell me who else at my company is using Unity? Or would that be against some sort of rule/law?

You won’t know, whoever bought it will actually no about it only.
And there is no online management tool to change the informations, only the support could do that

U3 will be out so soon anyway - don’t fret.

There’s an auto-update notification built into Unity, so anybody already on the beta will be notified.

Nope. We would like to have it as well - would save us a lot of SQL queries

You really do manual queries, no small standalone or webapplication that offers a convenient front end?
Interesting, interesting

Have you ever thought of consulting SAP?

To follow up on what Nicholas said:

  1. Your purchasing department will need to notify you about your serial numbers (those get sent right after the purchase is completed) as well as any beta access emails.

  2. Yup, we too want y’all to have an online license management system so you can move to a new computer on your own and saving us both the time and hassle*. But that’s just not in place yet. We’re working on a number of backend changes to get there, things like having switched over to Salesforce for sales contact tracking and whatnot, down the line will be things like allowing you to manage licenses.

*We don’t do those by manual database queries, we have forms that help us for that (a few ways to get to your serial number and thus work our magic).

  1. At times we’ve worked with companies to audit across departments and tally up the total number of licenses, but that’s been done more for accounting/tracking reasons more than “hey, who else uses Unity here?” reasons as it requires someone doing lookups on our end, and while those are easier now than they were before they’re still not as simple as they can and eventually will be.

Luxology did solve this the clever way long time ago.

You know this user centric licence thing which feels superior to the archaic way licences are dealt here with.

You have an online account with all your products, and from there you can download a key generator, for full as well as temporary usage, which enables you to unlock the software offline on whatever system you want to work with, no waiting time, no online connection needed, no begging, no hassle with greedy sales persons beeing involved, pure fun.

Oh, and they also have podcasts running since years…

On a sidenote, the BlitzMax licence is even more friendly.

Well it is good to know that both the users and Unity are looking into this type of system.
