Question about copying Flappy Bird?

I have seen many many clones of Flappy Bird come out. All of them are just simple clones with reskins. I have some great ideas to add to it and was wondering if I decided to continue with the project would I be able to release it or would it hit some copyright laws and legal issues for using the same idea?

The graphics would be different and wouldn’t be ripped from Nintendo and such.
