Question about Creating terrain

I want to create an historical RTS game. I want the battlefield to accurately reflect the original battlefield with terrain, buildings, scale etc. Should I use the Terrain editor for this or should I use a 3rd part tool, which one? and import the terrain into Unity. With the Unity Terrain editor can I build an accurate detailed terrain?

The Unity terrain editor seems to work fine for me. It really comes down to what you are more comfortable with and what gives better results. I personally think the Unity 3d editor would work well for accurate terrain. But thats just my opinion. Study photos well and get the height of the terrain as well. I think you will do fine.

If you don’t have any real skills in max, maya, blender etc. I strongly recommend using the Unity Terrain Editor. I once had the same question as I want to clone a real city. I played around with max, but I hardly get familliar with creating terrain in those modeling tools. Unity is the way to go if you want to make real progress in the first days and weeks.
