Question about Detail-Meshes and general Terrain

Hi!

I just wanted to know, if detail meshes can have colliders by hitting a button or doing something to the base model.

In the “Set resolution” menue the last point is “base texture resolution”. Where can i see, what that means, or what simply does it?
I changed a fully painted terrain in that option from 1024 to 512 and no change occured… except the memory usage dropped by a large amount…
My terrain textures are RGBs with 512*512 pixels

Thanks!

Frank

The “base texture” is the fully composited terrain texture that is used in the distance or on old hardware that does not support fully detailed terrain rendering. The easiest way to see base texture in action is use Render Emulation setting (geforce 2 for example).

Thanks for the fast reply!

OK, so that clears up what “Base Texture Resolution” is!

Sorry to make this old thread active again…
Is there a way to modify this “base texture” manually? To composite your own base texture, which isn’t just the sum of your ground textures, but, for instance, also has colors from the trees and detail textures as well?

I prefer a short “yes” or “no”, with no additional explanation over silence. I don’t need the “how” just yet, I just need to know the possibility
So please take a sec, and write me a response, should you know the answer…

Thx.
