Well I have an important question I hope you guys know the answer.
A friend of mine works in a company which has license to Zbrush and 3Dmax on his seat there, now me and him thought about making a 3D game for mobile and to publish it.
Now he has like 3 hours a day spare time in his job… are we allowed to use the assets he’s making from the licensed Zbrush in his company for our game?
I would think that’s up to the company he works for, it’s technically their license, but I really am not sure.
But I would believe it’s up to the company, as it is their license.
If the company doesnt mind then it’s fine? he’s not singed on any contract that prevents that and his boss doesnt care.
I mean is it fine with Zbrush’s company?
I suggest he review the license agreement. He should also (at the very least), get a written agreement signed by a representative of the company that it is ok. Because if he creates something on company time, on company equipment, then it belongs to them.
I think generally licenses forbid this in the “no rights to resell, transfer, lend, etc.” or similar section so the company who paid for the tools has no rights to allow this legally even if they wanted unless the assets clearly belong to that company and are done on their time.
Don’t quote me on any of that, it is only stipulation on my part, it is not legal advice.
But you or your friend need to go through all the proper channels… Get your buddy to ask his company, if the company ok’s it, then you or your buddy go to pixelogic (zbrush) and autodesk(3ds max) and ask them if it’s okay.
(Again - not legal advice) Just advice from dev to dev.
