I have searched everywhere for an answer to this, and for some reason can’t get an answer for this. I apologize if this is the wrong section to ask this, but it seemed appropriate.
I’m signing up to the Apple Development program so I can grab the SDK to start working on iPhone apps. But even when you sign up as an individual, it asks for a company/organization field, and it’s apparently mandatory even for an individual. What am I supposed to put here? I’m an individual, not a company, hence choosing individual. Can I put whatever I want here, or do I need to be registered as a solo trader company of some kind in my country? (I’m in Australia).
I know that when you sign up as a company you need to give further papers to prove business registration etc, but what’s the deal with signing up as an individual? I don’t want to put something wrong in there and have it bite me in the butt later on, because I’ve heard enough horror stories about Apple’s sign up to be extra cautious. Does there need to be any official registering of whatever you stick as company, or is it just the bit of text that displays below the seller name in itunes and nothing more?
You will need to be registered for GST in Australia. I can’t remember all the details though unfortunately - it’s been a couple of years since I went through the process.
That mostly looks like a separate company name you choose when uploading your first app. Is this the same as what you enter when you sign up though? Thanks for the link, but I think it just confuses me more.
And I’m not worrying about GST for now. At this rate I won’t even get past Apple’s confusing sign up, let alone get to publishing anything.
I feel your pain. It’s a long and difficult process. Do some searching around on that forum that I linked to - there’s a lot of good information there that will really help you out. Sorry I can’t be of much help - it’s really just been too long for me to remember too many specifics. I mentioned the GST though because it’s an Apple requirement so you may as well get it underway.
