Due to different version of Unity downloaded among teammates, I am required to update the version used from 2021.3.29 to 2023.1.9. And after I opened the project, the script pop up a 84 errors and textures/materials missing.
Error: Type of “Inputactions” already contains a definition of “Playeraction”
When I use the older version it has no this kind of error. May I know how can I solve this problem?
Checkout Unity change logs, to see how to tackle issues and changes.
Attack one problem at the time.
Speak with your team. If and why to upgrade. Rise all concerns and benefits.
Your options also are, smaller upgrade iterations. Don’t jump few LTS versions at once. Try intermediate Unity versions first. Maybe there is auto upgrade somwhere on the line.
If upgrade issue is a show stopper, then consider to do not upgrade.
Input action sounds related to having the “new input system” active or not active between the two versions, but this is guesswork.
That textures and materials are missing is rather weird however. Those systems haven’t changed since 2021. Visual assets from the store are made in slightly older version all the time and can simply be imported.
So try fixing them by copying the affected prefabs manually over from a copy of the old version.
Besides that, go error by error just like you would with any other problem that occurs during development…
The tip to go to 2022 first is a good one too.
Last but not least, it can be a good idea to delete the “library” folder before the upgrade so Unity rebuilds it right away in the new version.
