My first Asset Store submission (Primitive UI) got accepted earlier today, but I noticed it hardly ever shows up in search results. At first I figured I’d give the system some time - for all I know there could be some cache that hadn’t been updated yet - but I’m starting to get a little worried. I’ve also tried in a private window, but it doesn’t seem to be a caching issue on my side either.
When I search for the keywords “Primitive” and “UI” I typically only get 6 results. Only after clicking back and forth between the “sort by” keywords a good number of times do I very rarely and sporadically see my asset appear. I seem to have had most luck under “updated” and “rating”, but I have a feeling that’s just a coincidence.
Opening my scene in Unity, I can verify that I did indeed tag my asset, though I only put the tags on the main folder. Could this influence things somehow? Am I missing something here?
Any help would be much appreciated; even (perhaps especially) somebody verifying they are seeing the same thing happen.
Since the new Asset Store search features were rolled out last week, searches no longer use tags. And if it uses popularity (ratings and reviews) at all, it has a much lower priority now. It seems to use the category first (e.g., Textures & Materials/Icons & UI), followed by name, and then by description text. It also no longer uses publisher name. If you want people to be able to search by your publisher name, include it in your description text.
Primitive UI might just be an unfortunate name, since there are lots of “primitives” from shape primitives to primitive character models. “UI” will at least be more likely to get you into the right category, but it’s nothing that will help with search results.
Well, that’s something at least then. Still a bit bummed/ confused about the search results though. Just did a quick test with “text mesh pro”, which also consists of three often-used terms, and it showed up consistently across all categories, while mine only shows up every blue moon or so.
Now of course my asset isn’t exactly TMP, but still - inconsistent results even among refreshes does not sit well with me.
