Hi,
I´m currently evaluating the unity engine and up til now im quite impressed. I have one question regarding level geometry. Personally i like to build my level geometry in external 3d Applications such as 3ds Max and then import it into the game engine.
Our game will consist mainly of urban scenarios and interiors so terrain will be not that importaint.
So is it possible and does it make sense to build my entire level geometry in Max and then import it to unity or does unity need special geometry that can only be produced in the unity editor in order run at all or at least in order to run efficient?
Yeah, most everyone uses external 3D apps to create their level geometry for use in Unity. 3ds Max is a perfectly viable option for creating content for Unity although not as convenient as other apps that run on OSX.
Yes, aNTeNNa trEE, that was another concern of mine. Since Max doesn´t run on OS X i´m a bit worried with the implemetation workflow. I saw that video tutorial in which a model is changed in Maya and then updated in realtime in unity.
Would it be possible to use a Windows PC to model and then save the file via network on a OS X Computer and have the same realtime update in unity?
I read that i´ll have to export to .fbx or obj from Max. So if i save this fbx directly on my OS X Computer it should be possible?
Or would it make more sense to make the team switch from Max to Maya?
