Question Regarding Splash Screen

First of all I want to thank you Unity team for releasing the Fifth edition along with the pro features from the previous version for free!

I have a question though regarding the splash screen, and I have searched the forum about it, but no one seems to asked it yet, Well I’ve just installed Unity version 5.0.1, after building a prototype of mine to an android devices, and I’m quite shock but happy to see the splash screen now says “powered by unity”, have you guys removed the “personal edition” branding? If it is the case, I can’t thank the unity team enough…you guys rock…I wish all the best for unity and the developer!

Could you please post a picture of the new “Powered by Unity” splash screen?

The mobile splash screens in Unity 5 are the same as 4.X. Only the desktop versions show “personal edition”.

Ah. That makes more sense.

Ok… This is confusing / confounding.

I immediately set forth to check this.

Unity “Personal Edition” 5.0.1f1

Windows desktop has “Personal Edition” splash
Windows 8.1 Universal has “Personal Edition” splash
Windows 8.1 Phone has “Personal Edition” splash
Windows Phone 8 has “Personal Edition” splash
Android has “Powered by Unity” splash !

I don’t have an iOS device, so was unable to check.

What’s going on here?

Ah, my mistake then!

Weird… Mine says “LucasFilm”

I have my game right here on my phone from 5.0f4 (or something like that) and it definitely says “Personal Edition”. Fairly sure my iPad back home is the same, too.

Unity 5.0.1f1 “Personal Edition”

As tested by me:

Android splash displays: “Powered by Unity” [same as Unity 4.x splash]
iPhone splash displays: “Personal Edition”

Hmmm… Shall we commence with the wild speculations?

Though I’d love to be proven wrong, I think they just forgot to update the logo on the android builds to the much maligned “Personal Edition” version.

Or they had technical issues getting the animated splash to work nicely across android devices? Perhaps still working on a solution…

My theory is that somebody pulled the wrong repository when building the Android dll for 5.0.1

I expect that we will be seeing an f2 posthaste

Currently the splash for Android is the same as 4.x mainly because there are so many different devices it’s tricky to get the new one working well on everything (animated is a particular nightmare), especially low end. We have a version that works well on most but it’s horrible on low end and generally not all that great but we’re working on it.

For iOS, the splash screen is the newest version but it’s not animated, it will be soon, we’re working on an update for that.

Possibly, but it has been the same for every 5.0.x release so far (including all patch releases)…

Edit: seems my suspicion was correct as per Aurore’s post.

Thanks for clarifying Aurore!
