Questions about App Tracking Transparency (ATT) in iOS 14.5 and Unity Ads

I have tried to search for detailed information on this topic online but still have some questions…

I gathered that developers have to ask users for permission to track their behaviour etc.

In the iOS 14 integration guide, it states “You must implement the permission request prior to serving ads in your game”. Maybe I am nit-picking, but it is not crystal clear to me because the way it is written means to me that I could serve ads after implementing the permission request and getting declined tracking permissions.

Does ATT compliance mean if users decline tracking in the ATT prompt that I show, then I cannot initialize and serve ads using Unity Ads period, or does it mean I can still serve ads using Unity Ads but just that the ads served would be automatically switched from behavioural targeting to contextual targeting?

Also, is there a way to configure Unity Ads to not track users, so I can save the trouble of showing an ATT prompt to ask for permissions?

Thanks in advance.

Question 1 : yes.
Question 2 : yes you can set this. See

But i assume you should best notify the user (apple review team ) that you switched ad-tracking off.
I will do exactly that once users buy the game.
The analytics however would still be on. The user has a choice of switching those off too

If users decline the ATT prompt, ads will still show up, but the CPM will be much lower (my stats show about 3 times lower, but that’s using another network, not UnityAds).

And even though Apple says that you don’t need to show the ATT popup if you don’t use IDFA or use other identifying mechanisms (such as hashing the user’s email) - in reality that’s not correct.

Depending on who reviews the app they can reject it with no explanation, other than “You must show the ATT prompt to let users know that you’re tracking them” even if you don’t perform any tracking - simply because you show ads.

So it’s kind of a vague area, hard to find clear information, may be best to submit the app and see what the reviewer says.

Thanks for the info guys!
