Questions, need answers and any advice

I have my eye on some models but would like opinions from those who have “been there” and “done that”.

Would a building model of an old Victorian type mansion that had 131,000 vertices be bad for a game level? What if it is the only structure in a small limited range area, what are the limits?

The model I am looking at right now is here: http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/haunted-house-3d-max/624732

Would this be acceptable to a unity game? What would be acceptable on poly counts for building models?

Is there a simply limit to what 3d models of buildings, bridges, etc. can have in their individual poly counts within the same terrain?

Besides the asset store, where else have you bought or collaborated with; to get your models you use in your projects? Also in the past when I tried to buy from the asset store, my bank would deny the charges because the receiving bank was in Denmark, has any one else had trouble buying? Have they changed their online purchase processing agent?

When I had the trouble the were going through Bank of Scotland.

There is a limit to how many tris are allowed in unity I think its 50,000 not sure been awhile since I tried to use a model with too many tirangles

It’s closer to 63K but that is only per mesh and not total in scene.

It looks like that mesh is broken into parts so it should be no problem in Unity. However, if not and you have the budget, buy a little program called Ultimate Unwrap 3d Pro. It can decimate a model quite nicely and help you to remove extraneous material zones by combining them.

I noticed that model was broken up into several meshes and figured it should work fine. Thanks for the tip on Ultimate Unwrap 3D Pro, budget wise I usually will set aside about $1,000 to start, per project. So money is not much of a problem. Currently I have bought most of 3dfoin models and I have a limited membership at Arteria3D. I plan on buying some Dexsoft environment models (buildings, vehicles, etc.). I am really on the look out for good quality animated models of people, monsters, bugs, aliens, etc, for fantasy, modern and horror settings.

I find this rather interesting…a person makes a thread to promote info on unity for others and asks some questions and asks for any advice on 3d model use or purchasing from other indie devs and mostly gets crickets as a response, yet another guy starts a thread complaining about the cost of upgrading to a new version of software and EVERYBODY posts there with an opinion or unity defense.

Thank you to the two posters who did respond, your golden as far as I am concerned.
