I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on how to organize the GUI icons for my game. Does each icon need to be saved as an individual png or can I save “sheets” of icons to be used as needed? The big issue I’m facing is that my game currently has over 50 “status effect” icons that will need to be displayed periodically, in additional to the other GUI elements, and I didn’t know if I needed to save each icon as an individual file. Thanks!
Considering the less materials the better, generally speaking, I would recomend having a single atlas to hold all GUI elements. Then have some type of renderer asset that can adjust uv positions of a mesh. This should reduce draw calls and improve performance.
