RaceCraft Demo!

Yep, I finally polished up the first four tracks enough to give you guys a demo! Its a UB, and I managed to cut it down to only 28 megs when zipped. ;D Try it out and tell me what you think so far!

its a good start so far moldy ; ) some comments:

-something’s strange with the turning - it feels a bit sluggish to me - like i’m only ‘guiding’ the craft instead of steering it. also i’d add some difficulty variation to the track - curvy to long speedy staightaway back to curvy etc. - IMO things like that keep a player’s attention better give the fingers a small rest.

-are there any other controlls other than the arrows? maybe i just suck but i was getting schooled by the bots no matter what i tried.

-there seems to be a bug when you complete a level - i can’t start another one had to restart to try them all (the lava is probably my favorite but i like the music in the tree one the best ; )

Are you certain about the restarting thing? I thought it worked, but I never really tested it… >.> As for turning, you wouldn’t have wanted to play it a month or so ago. But I can work on it. And as for you always getting own’d by the CPU, they aren’t smart enough to always go for the boost pads, so you might be able to get a jump on them there. Maybe I could add something like a Boost Gauge that builds up to let you use a controlled boost whenever you want. Yeah, I think I will in fact. As for the tracks, Targos did it (sorry mr scapegoat!)! Um, I thought they were pretty good. What track in particular are you not liking?

EDIT: Dang. Just played through a track, and you’re absolutely right about not being able to start up a new one. The demo RaceCrafts don’t even race each other, and the track doesn’t rotate. Wonder what’s up with that.

i think they’re all fine, just IMO add some straightaways here there where you can maybe pick up speed and possibly some changes in track elevation - you’ll notice most non-oval racing games have things like this - it makes the race more interesting also as you do laps you start to anticipate what’s coming strategize ; )

Good start.

Actually, I think you might want to try scaling the current tracks larger (by 2?) or make the hovercrafts smaller. Right now, it’s more like bumper cars than racing. That could be interesting, but it’s just too crowded.

You might find the control is more fun (just as is) with the scale change, too. You have more room to drift and perfect turning and such things. Also, boosts would be more helpful because you wouldn’t always run directly into walls.

ahh good point - maybe that was more the problem i had with the turning.

I’ll try those things out. Thanks for the feedback.

I recommend you check your file. What I got was a 4KB .zip that couldn’t be decompressed :?

Same here :frowning:

That’s odd to say the least. It worked before, but now I downloaded and its just as you said. Well, it was pretty buggy anyways. I’ll release a new version soon.
