I am at my wits end. I have version 5.6.3.1, although older versions had the same issue. When using Unity and developing in C# with visual studio 2013, randomly, and without warning, my computer starts to choke. When this happens, right clicking on the taskbar and asking task manager to open, will leave me for 2 - 5 minutes waiting for it to open. This is the same when I open an internet browser. After rebooting my machine, I have the same problem, although the boot up process is normal speed, actually logging into windows will take 3 - 5 minutes and icons in the system tray take just as long to load.
The first time this happened I ran a system restore. Subsequently I have ran windows memory diagnostic, which gives me absolutely no useful information, but seems to fix everything. My fear is that one day it won’t.
I wondered if it was something to do with interference to do with Nvidia software, knowing you use PhysX. I have uninstalled Geforce experience, to see if that makes a difference.
I simply cannot be anymore specific, I cannot see anything meaningful with task manager or performance monitor. I have built non-Unity programs with C# and that causes me no trouble. Has anyone ever heard of this happening?
A problem like this will stop me from using Unity so it may be in people’s interests to respond.
All I have is anecdote I’m afraid, it happens inconsistently and I cannot be much more specific. I was wondering if it could be something to do with PhysX - changing force and velocity parameters through the editor during gameplay seems to make the problem more likely, and I have uninstalled Geforce Experience. So far so good. Has anyone got any knowledge that may shed light on this issue?
Are you trying to run Unity on a fairly low spec computer? When you encounter this slow down do you see it building lightmaps in the bottom right of the Unity window?
