reading from the mic in unity

Hello every one

My next project involves reading from a mic in a central way and I am considering the engines for a candidate.

Is there a way of reading the microphone level into unity.

If reading from a mic is not natively supported is there a commercial solution? , a free solution?

I searched the internet for a .Net sound library so that I may interface to it from C# inside unity but I only found some for Windows.

Is there any solution to this problem (to read from the mic from within unity), so that I may start planning to purchase unity and a Mac.

thanks in advance,
firas.

I don’t know of an existing solution.

But either a .NET library or a C++ library would work, so you could try to search for both.

If you’re open to using different solutions on Mac and Windows, you always connect to the sound libraries of the Mac OS X using a C/C++ bridge (the C++ extension interface does require Unity Pro.)

If you have a budget for it, we can of course work on this for you.

you can do this with a C++ bundle imported into unity…

from what you said i get that you only want to read the amplitude information from the mic signal? in which case this would be relitively simple to do as little analysis of the incoming signal would be needed.

Hello again

yes Cav, reading from the mic how high the speaker is talking in real time would be sufficient at the moment.

if the solution costs guys, give me an estimate please.

thanks again,
firas.

costs? are you looking for someone to write a plugin for you for this purpose? if you are i could write it for you…

Hi Cav,

I am still considering unity. I am just making sure that all the features I require are natively supported in unity or can be developed as a plugin for unity, that was the main reason for this post.

you reassured me about the mic feature, which a lot of the unity community members require and is posted on the wish list, however give me an estimate for the plugin cost if it will not consume a lot of your time.

I still have some problems however. I don’t own a mac, and for this I posted another post asking if I can run unity on my PC using a mac os x emulator to check it out. you know, buying unity and a mac is a huge leap with respect to my limited budget, and I have to make sure everything is ok before buying a software and a machine.

thank you for your time,

firas.

sure email me: cfyans@gmail.com and we can talk about exactly what your looking for and the possibilities.
