Would any body here be interested in running around in a 4D terrain with no meshes grass or any thing like that because 4D meshes would be too difficult ?
The lighting and camera will remain 3D.

I don’t get it.
How would you represent that 4D terrain, and why would we use it?
ok!
Which fourth dimension are you talking about? There are multiple views on what dimensions lay beyond our perceivable three. One view is a modern Einsteinian view, superstring theory, stating there are anywhere from seven to ten dimensions, the first four being spacetime and containing three spacial dimensions and one time dimension (the fourth). Other views state that the fourth dimension is not time, but a cube extruded into another dimension, just how an extruded point is a line, an extruded line is a square, and an extruded square is a cube. This is called a tesseract, and is impossible to perceive in our three dimensional view of the universe without creating a representation of it in two dimensions or three dimensions.
Just to be clear I am not talking about any real 4th spaceal demention(that may or may not exist)or that this will be of much use for this(could possibly make a puzzle game or exploration if meshes can be included.
The basics of how this will work involves changing the height of terrain to simulate moving through the forth dimension. Terrain will be a lot easier than anything else because a 3D terrain is represented in 2D while a 4D terrain could be easly represented in 3D so it’s a lot easier to work with.
You can cheak out a google search of Flat Land for some understanding of how to imagine it, also cheak out the vedo imagining the 10th demention. Moving in 4th demention can theoretically allow you to see inside of 3Dobjects.
This argument is flawed if you are referring to rendering anything on a computer screen; as that is 2-dimenional, so you don’t have a 3d surface to represent your 4th dimension - that would need some Star Trek holodeck or something - then your head would explode when you try and make sense of a fourth physical dimension; just look at what Picasso managed…
I think the idea of changing the height of 3D terrain to represent 4 physical dimensions might be trivialising the problem at hand :S
No thank you. I have enough problems with three dimensions.
And if you have any actual information on how to visualize a 4-dimensional space, then please do share them. You might also want to patent the idea while you’re at it.
Visualizing the 4th dime ruin is almost impossible but if you think oh time as a spasial dimension then you can imagine thugs in the past as things behind you and then say you can move freaky backwards and forwards in time then you kind of are imagining the closest you might get to imagining it.
Note I am not rendering the 4th dimention, I only render 3D cross sections of the terrain at a time and by represented in 2D I mean represented by a bump map
Sorry for the double post did not realize when I posted
So you plan on showing us a 3d terrain and introducing another dimension, time, and morphing the terrain?
Trippy!
Perhaps you should show us what you mean ![]()
So it’s impossible to imagine as long as you think of it as the right way?

So basically, you’re going to make a terrain… with movement over time.
No that was me trying to give people a way to imagine a 4th spacial dimention, time in reality is not a spacial dimention though it is a dimention.
Perhaps it would be just plane cater to show you a hack job version that only movement and simplified rotation. Should have it in 3-5 days based on how much other stuff I have to do. The final version should have rotation movement and simple cube meshes and possibly spheres(just figured out how I could do this)
Q and E will be used for movement in 4th dimention while Ctrl + Q and E control rotation along with the normal controls with wsad and mouse
By definition time isn’t a spacial dimension. It is the only “time” dimension in spacetime.
Dude, that made me laugh! ![]()
I agree, its not I was just trying to help people visualize sorry for any confusion.
Also note
How do you visualize time properly then? Just making things go back and forward in time isn’t enough.
