Hi,
I’ve asked this before but I’d like to see if there were changes.
From my understanding, realtime GI will be based on APV, and so the same anti-leak methods.
Will there be no additions what so ever to fight light leaking for realtime global illumination? In projects that aren’t a few tiny rooms or small scenes APV leaking can be very painful to deal with. Even with the debugger and adjustment volumes.
In particular with closed off interiors that are quite dark, with little light inside.
Hey,
That’s true, a future realtime GI solution for static environments will be based on APV. Concerning sampling, it should work the same way as before, so fighting light leaking may still be a reality. We have additional anti-leak solutions under consideration on our roadmap, however the purpose when designing the current antileak tools was to implement a solution that is performant on a large range of platforms.
Because this new dynamic GI solution will be entirely probe based and designed to be relatively cheap performance wise, there may be constraints regarding scene setup especially for complex scenes with interiors and exteriors (thicker walls might be necessary, more work might be needed with Probe Adjustment Volumes).
Hope this helps !
