Real-time Terrain Editing http://www.shineinthebox.com/WebPlayer/WebPlayer003/
Here’s a real-time terrain editing with a Unity Editor like GUI. (Only Heightmap Texture editing is available for now)
Instructions for this sample:
Create terrains
Check the Active? toggle.
Edit the terrain as you do in the Unity Editor.
Originally, I want to develop a game with support of terrain editing, model importing and so on. Yet, the API is not open as I expect. Although I can use the FBX SDK to read the data from the fbx and modify the mesh data, I can’t let the player import the model they like with Animation support.
So this real-time terrain editing I’d like to know whether it’s able to sell as an extension. For now, the terrain editing is not finished. Will you pay for it if it is finished with only dll binary? How much will you pay? Please give me feedback.
If people need it and give me a proper paid, I’ll finished it with Tree Detail Support and make it as an extension. If no one needs it. I’ll just treat it as a rubbish in my hard disk.
No matter I would finish it or not, I’ll move to a platform fulfill my need.
I will be pleasure if anyone tell me a platform open enough for my need. Thanks.
PS. There is some bugs for with the sample for now. They are all caused by GUI programming.
I was thinking about building something like this myself, so if the price is right I’m likely to buy it. Right now the camera navigation seems a bit buggy. Pressing the -alt- key (Mac) without a mouse click moves the camera but when I release the -alt- key the camera still moves. I’d think less than $50USD would be appropriate including source. Without the source it’s pretty much worthless (to me) as I’d need to tweak / customize it for my use anyways. More than that (or without source) and I’d just build it myself.
No. If I make it an extension, I’ll redesign the structure of the components. I’ll make it as API that you could call your self. So the camera control is out of my provide. I’ll just attach it as an sample scene. Thanks for your advice. I’ll have a consideration on it. For now, I don’t want to provide the source. I just want to see if it would useful for me to benefit from it. If not, I’ll just move to other platform with this one incomplete.
I would need to be able to re-design the GUI and add / remove functions, brushes, etc. in order for it to work for me. Other people might have different needs, so I can only speak for myself. My needs are actually quite simple but it would have to fit into the rest of my application in order for me to use it. So far this is looking pretty good and I encourage you to continue working on it. Best of luck.
Re-design the GUI and so on can be done easily. Just if no one needs it, and Unity is not fit my need anymore. So I won’t continue working on it for just $50 from one or two people. Beginning to work with a new platform will be much more useful for me now, if no one needs it…
I’m just voicing my opinion regarding my needs, others’ opinions may vary. With the new “asset store” it should be quite easy to post your project and see if it yields you the finances you’re looking for: Unity Asset Store - The Best Assets for Game Making
