Recommendations for vegetation system

Hi,

I am currently developing a plugin that needs to be able to work with one or more vegetation systems that are sort of popular nowadays

The plugin creates a contour similar to a heightmap. It could be used with Unity terrain vegetation but it seems Unity terrain vegetation is not too great as it doesn’t support a whole lot of things and is very closed for extension, also it is not mobile friendly it seems

As I don’t want to spend copious amounts of money on vegetation plugins I am looking for some recommendations

I believe vegetation studio is the most popular terrain detail system for unity if things haven’t changed

That one seems to only work on Unity terrains, I need a system that doesn’t require a Unity terrain

Last time I used veg studio it had support for meshes.
