Recording the iPhone Screen with iSight

I’m trying to record the actual iPhone screen, using an iSight, so that I can demonstrate a Unity iPhone game actually running in the device. The thing is, between the shiny glass iPhone screen and the untweakable lameness of iSight, it’s not working out very well.

Before I resort to using my camcorder, has anyone out there had any luck doing this using iSight alone?

Joe did it at unite. Tweak your lighting?

I’ve tried it in low light, normal light, high lights -and it’s always the same: washed out with lots of glare.

It must be a black art.

Have you tried turning the brightness on the phone way down? I’d try low light, with no light source at an incidence angle to the viewing angle of the camera, and then bringing the brightness on the phone down until it doesn’t look washed out.

I haven’t tried it, so I don’t know if it will work, but as a visual artist, I have photographed things many times, and it is difficult, without well placed lights to avoid reflections on a shiny surface.

Thanks for the suggestions, all.

What ended up working best for me though was to just use my HD camcorder.

I got perfect exposure, lots of pixels and didn’t have to turn the lights down low or tilt the iPhone at an uncomfortable angle.
