Recreating Real World

I’m primarily a programmer, but I’ve been asked to faithfully recreate a real world location for a simulation. Any suggestions on how to go about this? I’ve looked a little into Blender and Gimp, but I don’t think I’m skilled enough to manually create this environment (it requires precise textures, etc).

I haven’t done this personally, but a google of photogrammetry software might help get you started down the right path: Go to the location in person, take a whole bunch of pictures from as many angles as you can, then run a program to auto generate the 3D model of the set (and then I imagine spend a long time cleaning up the models).

Thanks, yeah, that’s what I was thinking of doing. I’ve tried going down the blender path, but I feel like I’m way in over my head haha.
