Regarding Job Description

we are a team work in company working on virtualreality labs and our team is divided in 2 parts(developers and graphic designers) and there is discrepancy on who shall do the art work in unity like i imported the (Fbx) file from 3ds max to unity and ofcourse there must be sombody who work on shaders and apply lights and materials and bake lightmaps
so my question is who prefer to do this job ?
thx,regards

Just assign it to someone and be done with it. There really isn’t a best answer for this, just what works best for your studio.

Create a new role called ‘Unity Intergrator’ and paint it on someone’s office door.

This is where the problem is. There should be a divide (like a high wall with barbed wire and old tin can phones) separating the techies/coders/programmers from the artists/3D modelers/animators/sculpters/2D artists. And they should snail mail content to each other when it is needed.

Seriously - maybe you should do a partner system where one technical guy is pared with an art guy. They will be working on there own stuff, but this has the effect of cross sharing/training so each side of the wall can know more about the other, and when one team emerges as the one who can do the quasi-tech/art stuff like shader work, lighting, UI, and other content development that requires both sides to be included - they can be the guys to do the integration stuff.

Although you can always draw straws or arm wrestle for it.

Most work will require technical folk and art folk to work side by side to get everything working properly and looking correct.

I think the important question is who can do the job? If you have a guy who really knows shaders, then he’s your shader wizard, right? If there’s someone who can do lighting really well, have them do scene lighting.

If you don’t have anyone with those skill sets, but you do have people with a bit of open time, or lighter workloads than others, have them learn how to do what you need them to do.

How does it come to be that a person manages a team of game developers and doesn’t know these kind of things? :stuck_out_tongue:
