[RELEASED] Anime characters - More on the horizon

HI all

Being the otaku that I am, I have wanted to make anime style games for ages now but find it hard to find the appropriate content so I finally decided the time is right for me to start bringing this content to market…

Introducing Ichigawa Kaori. The lead cast member of Kaori and Friends, is now available on the Asset Store

Introducing Shima Hitomi. Class president and captain of the debate team, Hitomi strives to be an example for other students

Introducing Ichigawa Tomoe. Sure, Japanese girls choose their schools based on how cute they will look in the uniform, but sometimes you just have to unwind…

Introducing Takeda Megumi. So far we have the generic sailor suit for Summer and Winter versions of the high school uniform and the latter for after hours as well as a jersey. Now we add in the Winter version of the Sailor Suit… The winter lineup is almost complete…

Introducing Ichigawa Rei. No action packed anime can avoid an injury or two along the way. Unfortunately Rei drew the short straw in that department but she is strong enough to show up for English lessons the next day…

Sailor suits, high school uniforms, t-shirts, gym uniforms, swimsuits, formal shoes, casual shoes, no shoes, boys, girls… Heck, I’m even speaking with my artist to create an entire school environment for these characters to populate…

For now these characters clock in at around 6000 triangles or slightly over as I concentrate on brining you variety. In time I will also be releasing free updates with LOD versions of the characters. The hair comes as separate models so you are able to swop and change the hair styles between characters to create a larger variety of characters. More hair styles will be available in time also.

If you are an anime fan or an otaku like me, this is the series you are going to want to watch out for

You can now also see a web player of some of them in action here:

…Kaori and her friends… and a tone deaf teddy… and ex-friends who just can’t take a hint :stuck_out_tongue:

Comments more than welcome…

That webplayer demo is epic

On the product, I would go on with more details on the following:

  • what animations the customer gets (dancing is cool, but what about walk, run, idle…?)
  • showing a wireframe over the body is helpful
  • minor thing, but showing the UV can be helpful too, likewise with rigging, how much bones
  • whether the characters are modular (can I use the blue skirt with the black upper clothes?)

Other than that, the models, rigging and textures seem to be high quality, well done!

Glad you like it

First off, I made a mistake during submission… I had the final price up as the “special price”. The package has now been updated to reflect the correct sales price. Sorry about that

As for the extra screenshots, sure, I will upload some soon. As for the animations, as I stated before, the model is setup to work with Mecanim and the prefab is already configured and all so all you need to do is drag it into a scene, drop any existing AnimationController object onto it and you are done. Each character I add to that video takes me around 1 minute to setup and animate…

For example, download this package for a complete starter pack, completely setup and ready for use…

Import this into your scene, drag it onto my prefab and hit play. That simple.

As for your other question, I have a surprised planned so I don’t want to spoil the fun now… but suffice it to say, when the meshes are the same (i.e. the skirts are the same), yes, you can use the texture from one model on the other one… Just copy paste and you are good to go. The models were designed, built and unwrapped with that exact purpose in mind…

Some wireframe renders as promised…

This looks pretty awesome. Keep up the good work - definitely looking into buying some of your stuff.

Thanks Jashan. Keep your eyes peeled, more to come :stuck_out_tongue:

And with that, I’d like to announce that Kaori has been accepted onto the asset store. Two down… lots more to go :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, and just by the way, not sure if this makes any difference at all, but these characters have the same bones as Mixamo characters so any Mixamo animations you have (as long as it doesn’t have the Mixamo namespace) will work on these characters also…

So for those of you who use Mecanim, she is 100% compatible with all those numerous Mecanim animations out there. For those of you who use legacy animation systems, you can simply drag any Mixamo animation onto them and you are good to go…

Good looking characters Mr.Dude

Thanks a bunch

I’ve added Tomoe and Hitomi to a modified version of the Unity tutorial… Then made it an international competition :stuck_out_tongue: lol  Well, you can see for yourself…

Hostage Negotiator

Windows | Mac | Linux
And of course, on my website under the Demos section…

Not much negotiating going on there, actually. In this first level from Unity you are supposed to sneak about but in time I have plans to add more levels and then have you actually taking them out…stealthily… using a variety of characters, move, weapons etc… Will make this current installment rather boring in comparison… but for now…

Enjoy

I’ve updated the links in the previous post to download the files from another location. Seems Box somehow messed up all my downloads… Strange… Anyways, updated now so just pick your OS from above and click away

Also, just another quick render of Kaori and her friends

Ichigawa Tomoe has joined the party and is now live on the asset store

Ichigawa Rei has joined the party and is now live on the asset store also

I’ve updated the demo with a few more characters. If you thought the demo was epic before… try it now :stuck_out_tongue: lol

I tried to add some choreography to the scene but I’m not really sure it works… Comments welcome…

Kaori and Friends

The fifth uniform variation has just been submitted to the Asset Store… So when it is accepted we will have the following variations available:

  • Summer Sailor Suit
  • Winter Sailor Suit
  • Casual wear long sleeve shirt
  • Jersey
  • Buttoned up jacket

Also two interchangeable hair styles and 3 variations of ties.

This new package now includes Unity’s locomotion controller for Mecanim and is placed in the prefab so to use her all you need to do is import the package, drag her into your scene and hit play. Also includes a demo scene to see her in action.

Now we wait…

Original post updated…

Takeda Megumi has joined the party and is now live on the Asset Store

H all

So I’ve made a few more clothing options for Kaori and friends and I think I have gone far enough with the girl’s school uniform variations. I want to start on something new and wanted to get your guys opinions on what you would like / need.

What I have in mind is gym clothes, the standard school swimming clothes and a male version wearing the full uniform. Once people stat showing enough interest in all of this I was planning on expanding into shop uniforms, maid uniforms, gothic clothing and temple wear.

But before I start shooting in the dark, please let me know what you would like to see in terms of anime based characters. Your input will be most valuable.

Okay, I think Kaori has gone as far as she can go now.

All of the above character’s prices have been set to $5 each to make it more affordable to get the entire set with Tomoe being available as a free download.

Alternatively you can get all the parts for $25 when you buy the Custom Character Kit bundle (Unity Asset Store - The Best Assets for Game Making). This will require the Custom Character kit also (Unity Asset Store - The Best Assets for Game Making), though, but this way you get yourself a few hundred characters and any hair colour you want for each of them.

Right, so, enjoy

They need a lot more outfits. Some final fantasy or other anime type outfits would be great.
And a male version of this pack.
Great work though.

These are great, MrDude. Take this all as constructive feedback:

I’ll have to agree with dreamlarp-- we’re missing some school boys and bad boys here, and maybe a mom and a bent grandpa. There’s not quite enough to support a dating sim, or a harem comedy, at this stage. These girls look about the right age for a magical-girl fantasy, so think about some frilly sparkly clothes and some transition animations.

Are you creating these in Blender? Have you considered shapekeys for facial animation, or are you expecting decal animation? I’m not sure what shader(s) you’re using but they seem a bit mismatched in the Mecanim junkyard scene and other shots. The hair is glowing compared to the skin.

I like your pricing plan… it’s hard to get a large cadre of characters for an indie title if each one is high-priced.
