[RELEASED] Flowfire EDITOR PLUS - shortcuts, favourites, history - editor extension

Hey Unity friends!

Editor Plus just got released, yeah!

Editor Plus was created as a workflow improvement for Unity, eliminates time-wasters and
contains things we personally enjoy and think makes Unity faster and more fun to work with.

What does Editor Plus do ?

Yes, even scene objects like your camera!

◘ The Editor Plus windows explained:
◘ Plus History
Keep track of your last used items. If you clicked on anything (prefabs, camera, trees …),
it will appear on your history. No more constant folder switching.
Save favorites like your main camera with one click, they stay in the list through
Unity restarts and everything (Project bound). Just click the lock icon again to delete!

◘ Plus Hotbar
It works like a virtual folder, is saved Project based and you can drag
and drop from it, but also accesses the objects in the inspector or open things like scripts.

You can add your scenes, important scripts, anything! It’s like a second personal project
folder. It is even possible to add components and drag them directly to your camera.

◘ Plus Primitives
All the Unity objects (meshes, cameras, lights…) in one compact package with Icons for everything. Perfect for building levels and worlds, prototyping or your everyday need of one or two objects, they quickly add up. Also its just more fun (and a lot faster) clicking on fancy icons than navigating multiple drop down menus!

◘ Plus Shortcuts
Access your project settings directly without going through 2 submenus.
You can also easily add shortcuts of your own. Once you have it, you’ll never want to go back.
Changing settings all the time ? Lighting, Project settings, Graphics settings ? This is it!
You can now add your own custom menus even.

You can use all of those or only one, can be scaled to horizontal or vertical slots.
How to use: Simply create the windows you want and snap them into your workspace.
Done!

EDIT:

Due to popular request,
You can now get the Plus Hotbar as a standalone asset too!

Looks nice! So the favourites save through unity and PC restart ?

Yes, they are saved. You will have to uninstall your OS to get rid of them (or unlock them in Editor Plus)

Alright, nice

Oh we forgot to mention, Editor plus comes with source code too.
Edit: Corrected mistake

We planned a new window for the next update, allowing easy saving and access of prefabs with a nice 3D preview too, we think you’ll like it. We are also looking after saving components as favourites after request.

If you have any questions, we are here!

Looking really good! I might just get this tonight!

Open source ? Or do you mean it comes with source code? Open Source and source code included are two completely different thing.

Open source means it can be freely used (this is not free), changed, and shared (in modified or unmodified form) by anyone (I don’t you want people to just share your extension freely on the internet…) .

.

Oops, it was too late yesterday. I’ll edit it. Didn’t notice, thanks ; )
Source code is included.

Just want to know one last thing before pulling the trigger; the History feature - this tracks EVERYTHING you do in Unity right? Not just from the Plus menus right?

Also, does it do Scene Camera tracking like this:

What I mean is, just how comprehensive is the History feature?

It does not do scene camera tracking, this seems like a pretty specific feature.

Our history tracks all the objects you click on in the project and hierarchy, shows them in a list
and allows them to be pinned down and instantly jumps to their project/hierarchy location if clicked.

Inspector Navigator likely is more extensive if you are just looking for the history and navigation part,
we offer a dedicated place for favourites however and the window is a lot more resizable ( I think), and generally
Editor Plus aims to be a general Unity extension with varied improvements. The Shortcuts (UI Shortcuts),& Primitives Bar are big time savers and our next plan is a dedicated prefab window, that allows you to save prefabs for quick acess
in a nice looking grid, and probably allows components to be tracked in the history too, so that camera effects per example could be quickly acessed.

Sounds good! Sold!

Here is a preview of the new Plus Hotbar:

It works like a virtual folder, is saved Project based and you can drag
and drop from it, but also accesses the objects in the inspector.

Click - Item is selected, you have acess to all its properties in the inspector
Doubleclick - Scripts, PDF, Shaders are opened for instant acess
Drag - Drop into your scene and they are placed at your mouse cursor
Click + Delete - Remove the item from the hotbar, the physical item is untouched.

You can add your scenes, important scripts, anything! It’s like a second personal project folder.
It is even possible to add components and drag them directly to your camera.

Its pretty much what you make out of it, and personally my new favourite.

The new Hotbar is of course as flexible as all other windows

Excellent plugin!!! Use it extensively everyday :).

Have a small request, can you please add the “Plus” in the name after the name of the shortcut, for example “Primitives Plus” instead of “Plus Primitives” or remove the Plus entirely.

The reason for the request is I usually stack the toolbars next to each other (tabbed) and the names sometimes are hidden, especially for UI settings (“Plus ShortcutsUI” is quite a long name for a window and all I see is “Plus Shortcu” which makes it difficult for me to know what that window is for).

If the “Plus” is in the end and ends up being hidden, the user can at least see the primary name of the editor window. For now I am modifying the names in the code, but this would not be practical as every update would replace them, so if possible please change them.

Other than that it works like a charm, great job :).

Very glad that you enjoy it!
This with the names is a very valid claim and we objected this as well.
Yes we will include the name change in the Hotbar update (among some other fixes), ETA: 4-7 days. We hope you will enjoy the Hotbar equally as well.

We would be very happy about a rating or review, more interest means we can add more features and polish, but no obligations : )

Just to show how flexible the windows are in size. Its obviously totally smooth
in Editor, the gif is a bit hacky. The button windows will also split in multiple ones
in the horizontal layouts.

Very nice, this is now one of my favourite extensions!
Will give a positive review soon. Keep those update and new features coming!

The Hotbar looks great, will wait for the update, excellent work :). An additional small request, is it possible to add tool-tips to the primitives bar. It is usually clear, however sometimes when working on multiple things, it gets a bit frustrating to figure out which icon represents which primitive.

Thanks again for your efforts in creating an excellent plugin, it will surely help a lot of developers save valuable time.

If anyone is on border for purchasing this, based on my experience, its a pleasure to work with and improves your workflow significantly.

Thanks for your input.
For the Primitives, we went strictly with the Unity Icons so that its low on confusion
I am not sure if hovering tooltips are possible in the inspector but we will have a look.
Here is a small chart:

The ones I find a bit harder to grasp may be Light Probe Group, Reflection probe (those are Unity Icons however) + the Two audio ones, but if you use Light/Reflection probes you will likely know them and generally we are pretty happy with the clarity of the icons.

Sprite is a bit special, we used the Game Maker Studio interpretation of that one, but we think things will be clear after using it once or twice, unless you (or anyone) has a suggestion for something that you find not clear enough.

(You can also delete icons you do not want in the script very easily)

Nice to hear that it works great with your workflow!
