[RELEASED] Photoscanned Stumps Vol. 2 ! | Now with backwards compatibility to Unity 4.x

The pack is finished and available on AssetStore! - Stumps Vol. 2 - Photoscanned | 3D Environments | Unity Asset Store

Hello guys
Maybe you remember my first photoscanned trunks, stumps and roots pack: Stumps & Trunks Vol. 1 | 3D Props | Unity Asset Store
Finally I gathered enough material to make more realistic stumps, this time most of them will be mossy type, as many of you said they were the best.
Pack will contain around 8 models, provided scans come out good, I didn’t processed all yet, and will cost 15$, what do you think about that?

This one is a lot better, compare it to the first raw scan:

And here are some unprocessed scans, most of them are similar quality to first pack or better:

Is it possible to include a super high resolution version that is close to the uncompressed pics above ?

Maybe encode the moss in a very high definition bump or displacement map for example and look exactly like the high poly model, that would be amazing

Also the stumps without the surrounding are not very usuable to me, i would pay $50 easilly for a complete pack that comes close to the uncompressed pics in all aspects (detail, surroundings etc), so it is easier to set a complete environment that its parts fit well together.

Your work on the 3D recreation is unbelievable btw

@nasos_333 Thanks! Unprocessed raw scans are around ~100-500k tris or even more and 16k textures, so it’s killing for most of the machines(I had to buy powerfull PC to make the most of the scans). I’m trying to keep tris count around 5-10k, baked normalmaps from scans and add LODs for performance.
One big pack with complete environment is not really possible, because it all weights a lot, because of high-res textures (I’m making 4k). That’s why I split everything in separate pieces. For example here you’ll find leaves: Materials Sample Vol. 1 | 2D Floors | Unity Asset Store - FREE (I’ll make proper set of leaves when I get new camera). Ground/Dirt - Ground Dirt Materials | 2D Floors | Unity Asset Store (4$) These two packs combined can make nice ground for autumn environment. Typical forest ground could be found here, there is also moss texture (you can paint it on ground or use some vertex painting shader to add as detail on stones or something) - Forest Grounds Vol. 1 | 2D Floors | Unity Asset Store (3$). And if you need vegetation details like mushrooms, here’s collection - Forest Mushrooms - Photoscanned | 3D Vegetation | Unity Asset Store (15$). I’ll make soon after stumps scanned sticks (around 5, for 5$). After that I’ll try to make some nice video showing how those packages are working together to create nature forest environments (I’m still working on scanned trees tough)
Oh, and I also have scanned rocks pack, half of them comes actually from forests, the mossy ones - Rocks Pack - Photoscanned | 3D Environments | Unity Asset Store (15$).
They were all done in different places and times so connection might not be completely seamless.
I’m very close to buying good DSLR (thank you, community and AssetStore!), and then I’m planning to go for a trip to make lots and lots of scans to make perfect seamless environment packs series. I’ll also make ‘lite’ low quality big pack to show how it may work together
The biggest problem is blending to the ground, as you notice there are lots of small objects all around

Sorry for long post, here are more ready scans waiting to be converted to game assets. I’ll try to get most out of them without having much impact on performance

Thanks to useful tips from @nasos_333 I’ve made something that looks really cool (I think).
If you bought my previous packs, or thinking about it, if you’re using Standard shader, change it to Standard (Specular setup) it looks much, much more like original scans. I’ll be rolling small update with this soon and I’ll also include lossles *.png textures so it will weight less after decompression (currently there are uncompressed *.tga).
Also, I’ll write or record quick tutorial how you can make a 3D decals patch from my textures and make FREE sample pack, you can see how they working on screen below, how you can blend ground with meshes

Indeed this new version is stunning and one of the best showcases of the technique i have seen, definitely is one of the must have packs for any forest scene.

The ground is also very cool and makes for a very complete overall feeling that can be readily integrated in the scene

I will be using this extensively for my grass system demos and cant wait to see more such items

Almost finished
I tried to take a closer shot at similar angle to raw scan so you can have comparison.
There’s one more stump to do, and then some fixes etc. . High texture resolution will allow you to make them bigger without losing quality

absolutly stunning, cant wait for this pack

I’m happy to announce that this pack has been finished after all day of work and submitted to AssetStore!
Also, I’ve recorded video tutorial about 3D decals I used here to blend stumps with ground, begginer friendly, you can make everything only by mouse, keyboard is needed only to type names
It’s not publicly visible yet, it will be shown along with FREE 3D decals pack.
You can check it out here, and let me know what you think, comments and critique welcome, as it’s my first video tutorial ever

And here’s what you’ll get in pack:

I decided to price it 15$ as previous Trunks and Stumps, because models number is similar, and these are even better and interesting. If you still have doubts if it’s worth it, check this out:

It should be published this week or in next one

I’m happy to announce that pack is ready on AssetStore - http://u3d.as/kCU
FREE 3D Decals are also up! - 3D Decals + Materials samples + Tutorial | 2D Floors | Unity Asset Store

Bought instantly

Looks super amazing, cant wait ot try it and i will leave a review soon.

@nasos_333 Thanks! I hope you won’t be dissapointed :slight_smile:

Official backwards compatibility for Unity 4.x users is now available
Of course, there won’t be PBR shading, AO maps are not used, and at least in 4.0 LODs are not available with personal edition (not sure how it looks in other versions up to 5.0).
