Mesh and shader look good, but the eyes are too static imo. Dogs blink and they express a lot with there eyes, lids and brows.
Also imo the animations are marginally OK… They look very pose to pose and studdery rather than smooth as an organic body moves. I could understand if the dog was a stiff legged pug, sheba or bull dog if the animations looked like this, but for a shepherd the animations should be a lot smoother with easing and sharp, snappy movements when they are being aggressive.
This dog model comes with a good bunch of blendshapes to control eye / brows / lids movement, as well as blinking, snarling and baring of the teeth for additional details. It also contains scripts to randomize these behaviors or link them to the animations as specified in the package’s description, as well as an animator controller that demonstrates several smooth transitions between animations.
The dog model now released has slightly bigger eyes for a more natural appearance. The fur shader is also highly optimized to allow many instances of the model working at the same time.
Due to requirements from the Asset Store regarding the new SRPs included with Unity 2018.1 and how we are expected to update our assets to support it before the end of the year as well as to avoid any confusion between the Fur shader included with this model and our dedicated fur solution, ** XFur Studio ,** the fur shader will be removed from this package with the next update coming in a few days. People who already bought the asset and have the fur shader included with it can keep it and keep using it with the model as they wish, but the fur shader included with this model will no longer receive any updates nor support.
Because the package will not include the shader in the next version, the next version will also come with a price drop from the current 45 dollars price to 35.
The main reasons to remove the fur shader are the following :
The fur shader included with this package is a functional but limited fur shader that has been deprecated in favor of XFur Studio. Both shaders are completely different in their features and methods, so supporting both is no longer feasible for me.
Unity is asking to all asset developers to start supporting the Lightweight SRP by the end of this year. Upgrading this shader, as it exists now, is not feasible. The lightweight version would not have the shader at all, which is another reason to remove it already to make the upgrade process that Unity will demand of us as easy as possible.
To avoid confusion between products. People buying this and other models from us should not expect the fur shader here included to be as feature rich or as efficient as XFur Studio. To avoid any customer thinking that by buying our models the fur asset they will receive is comparable to XFur Studio, I am deciding to remove the fur shader from this package completely.
But again, to make this as fair as possible for future users, the price will be reduced in 10 dollars.

A big update is being developed for this asset, with new content as well as a small unitypackage file to add compatibility with XFur Studio 2 (sold separately). We will share more news about this very soon!
We are happy to announce that our big update for our German Shepherd model has been sent to the Asset Store for approval and will be available soon. Among the many improvements made for this 2020 Remastered edition (which will be a free update for all existing users) are 40 animations, including re-worked and brand new ones, new 4k texture maps and a completely new color variant as well as Fur profiles and assets for XFur Studio 2 (XFur Studio 2 is sold separately).
