[RELEASED] UModeler Basic : A Ultimate and Intuitive Prototyping Tool for Unity. For Free

I inform you that UModeler Basic isn’t available on the asset store as of 05/24/2017 because I realized that maintenance for UModeler both basic and pro at the same time needed more efforts and time than expected.

So UModeler Pro won’t need to have Pro suffix. Therefore UModeler Pro will be renamed to UModeler from 1.0.5 version.

I’ll be able to concentrate more on working on only one version so it’ll make UModeler more powerful and easier to use.

I would like to thank you for interests in UModeler basic until now.

The official version of UModeler (used to be called UModeler Pro) is still available here.

This video showcases how to make prototype levels with UModeler Basic.

UModeler Basic is the right tool to make prototype levels. It provides powerful drawing tools so that you can draw 2D shapes on a plane. And you can turn them into 3D shapes in an easy way.

UModeler Basic is available at http://u3d.as/Hz5

Some of the features:

  • Supports any simple polygons even with holes.
  • Translation, Rotation and Scale of vertices, edges and polygons using gizmos.
  • Drawing on any polygons.
  • Push/Pull tool of any polygons.
  • Inset tool.
  • Fills space between edges or vertices.
  • Automatic UV generations.
  • UV transformation.
  • Color assignment to any polygons
  • Obj Export.
  • And much more.

Moreover it’s for free.

A shape made with UModeler Basic can be used for not only rendering but collision, navigation and trigger zone etc.

View this manual to know the features more and visit this website or facebook page to get the latest information about UModeler.

This tool is for free for everyone.

I have noticed that there are certain times when hitting ESC twice does not give back control to Unity. Is anybody else having this problem?

Usually I can fix this by using one of the tools, such as push/pull, then hitting ESC a few times and Unity takes over. However, there have been a few times that I had to actually get out of my project and then get back into Unity before I had control back.

(But all and all it’s a really nice tool. Thinking seriously about “going pro”.)

Hello lundon,
Did you press ESC when the focus is in the scene view?
Hitting ESC works well only when the focus is in the scene view. If ESC doesn’t work in the scene view, I want to know which tool was selected when ESC was hit.
Thanks.

Hi

Thank you for creating this asset. Is there a video tutorial for this?

The link below is the manual of UModeler. [Basic Workflow] part will show you how to make a simple mesh with UModeler. Though it is written around Pro Version, the steps can be applied for Basic as well.

I’ve started to think about making a simple tutorial video. I’ll let you know when it’s done.

Hello.
UModeler Basic Ver 1.0.3 has been uploaded.
The details about this update can be checked out in the link below.
https://umodeler.github.io/umodeler_basic_releasenotes.html

UModeler Basic 1.0.4 has been released in the asset store.

The bug in the obj exporter has been fixed in this update so that duplicated positions, normals and uvs could be handled.

The details are here.

Version 1.0.6 has been released so it’s available now.

  • Fix - Preferece for key setting : Wrong positions of UIs in Preference for setting up keys on Unity 5.6
  • Fix - Transform tool : Flickering gizmos in Vertex/Edge/Polygon tools when more 2 views are open.
  • Fix - Display : Incorrect vertex cubes’ size bug.
  • Fix - Gizmo : A bug about getting a gizmo locked when UModeler object exits.
  • Improvement - Transform Tool : Made the way of changing gizmo same as the way of Unity. The gizmo can be switched to another by clicking on the cursor icons as well as pressing W,E and R.
