Hello, I’m about to release a technical demo for my game but I have a few questions about store assets.
I do want to release the source code but only to those who have X,Y, and Z assets. If they have the paid assets I used in the demo would I then be able to give them the source since they have purchased and can legally verify they’ve purchased the assets?
I’m just trying to avoid any trouble that’s all.
The source will not be publicly released for download, it’ll be sent to those that have the paid assets used for the game.
No, absolutely not - you do not have any rights to distribute assets that you did not create. It’s stated very clearly in the EULA:
“It is emphasized that the END-USERS shall not be entitled to distribute or transfer in any way the Assets in any other way than as integrated components of electronic games and interactive media.”
You can release a compiled build of your game that incorporates thrid-party assets, and you can release the source of any code you write. You cannot distribute the source of any third party assets.
