Releasing Unity Games to Major Web Portals Without Earning Money?

Hey fellow Unity devs.

This past weekend I checked out various online generic game portals thinking I might as well release my game on those too. Anyway, I discovered most (maybe all) provide an ad revenue sharing program. They seem to expect everyone wants that.

Anyway, my Christmas game is to be completely free and I have no desire to earn money from it at this time. So… I am wondering if anyone has any experience releasing Unity games on the web portals? Can you temporarily opt out of the revenue sharing and turn it back on later? Or maybe disable ad revenue sharing on a specific game?

Basically I am not looking to make any money from the game at this time. For tax filing purposes unless I am making a significant amount of money it’d be more hassle than it is worth. So… my goal is just to 1) share my game so people looking for good classic Christmas gaming fun can play it and 2) get my message out to the world (I make ā€œold schoolā€ style games - this first one is kinda like an Amiga game). Nothing more. I have no problem with the portal getting money… I just don’t want any money from it now.

I planned on contacting every portal and asking about this but thought someone here might be able to tell me.

Actually… thinking about it… I suppose any tiny dab of income wouldn’t be paid out til next year at this point anyway. Is that correct?

Thanks!

I wish I had some light to shed on this but I don’t, but have you tried Miniclip.com? I’m not sure if they take Unity games or not, but I know back in the day I played all kinds of games there and never seen an Ad, but of course I didn’t really pay attention for them either lol.

Oh and you aren’t charged taxes I believe until you make 600 dollars a fiscal year.

Thanks! I may just need to check them all.

Yeah I know about the below $600 no need to claim. But this will be the first year in a long time I have not needed to file any business income. I slowly purged my Internet income over the past few years. This year I only made a couple hundred dollars. Didn’t want to make that even but didn’t deactivate all online income systems in time. Anyway, so it is just going to be nice to file just as an individual no business activity filing, no stock investment filing. I just want a simple time for once. Lol

Pfft, I love to pay taxes because I’ve never done any internet business before, I usually just do everything for FREE. Well I’m almost 30 years old and free isn’t an option if I want to eat LOL…
