Remi: My senior thesis

I’m a senior in highschool and for my thesis I’m developing game in Unity. The game is called Remi. Its about this little boy who is afraid of the dark and is plagued by nightmares. You hit the space bar to fly up and let go to fall: helicopter game  Its still in pre-alpha / alpha (its due in December). I made a video of it: what do you think?

Can’t really say much yet. I am not sure what those boxes and particle effects mean. Maybe some less abstract art would work better? Also imo this music doesn’t work, sounds like some LOTR elvish singing, a little too pretentious. Just my 2 cents, gl

Thanks for the feedback cheburek. The particle effects are the monsters trying to get Remi: eventually they will have scary looking teeth. The boxes are just stand in graphics for obstacles

It looks pretty cool. A+ material we have here.

Looks pretty cool so far, it’s always neat to see a new concept built on an existing game mechanic.

Thanks for the replies all. I’ll have another update vid up soon.

Nice to see a game with such simple mechanics in a creative environment. It’s a cool idea and as this is still pre-alpha you should definitely keep on developing

Only the music takes a little getting used to it, lol.

Looks great!

If you want some more visual effects, add some scrolling fog in front of the camera. To do this, jump into photoshop and render out some clouds. Hit ctrl+L, and fiddle with it until the majority of the clouds are black. (Black will be transparent). Use the resulting image as an alpha mask on a plain white background. Chuck on a script which scrolls the texture, and boom. +50 style/creativity.

Thanks .Rattlehead and suctioncup. It really makes me feel good to hear stuff like this. I will definitely act on all of your suggestions.

Hey everybody, I’ve made a few minor tweeks to the game:

  • Made sky darker
  • Added star effects
  • Added score keeper
  • Added wakeful pyramids

Hm… i think the bright “sky” works better. The dark sky lacks on visual contrast between the elements.

The game looks umh… Addictive !
I gotta ask though. What is the backwards flying dark smoke ?

lol thanks. The backwards flying dark smoke are “banshees”. If you hit them twice, you die. I’m working on a few things to make that more clear.

Looks nice.
Good job

Hi again!
So Remi has really come along and I’m really just putting on finishing touches and polishing up a few minor bugs. I made a demo reel with some of my other projects (Remi is the only finished one). Tell me what you think of Remi. Does it need more work?

Remi, if it’s the black white grayscale scenes with the ‘anti-matter’ comet is by far the only interesting game. And that’s mainly visually the concept is old but that doesn’t make it bad. I’d change the ‘exploding comet’ from red to some shade of gray.

The others might be good for you instructionally but are in the market to the point of mega-saturation and extremely boring (the point shoot in particular).

I’ve seen that avatar before. Have you been on the forums for a game called infinity?

Thanks for the feedback. I’m glad you think Remi is interesting; out of these projects I’ve put the most effort into that one.

Nope. Just Remi [quote=“roger0, post:17, topic: 508337, username:roger0”]
