Remora Blade (Arcade Style Shooter)

Been picking away at my Vertically Scrolling Shmup, Remora Blade. It now has a sound track, and a complete first level (still no shields, if you followed my original thread hehe)

(Space to Shoot, Arrow Keys to move)

Have a go and let me know what you think.

(~10MB Webplayer, can be choppy on lower end systems)

edit: working on fixing up the keyboard controls, the 360 controller works much better at this point.

I love these shooters.

I do miss shields of some sort, but the core mechanics feel good, and the ships look nice.

I’ve been wasting too much time on the “Bloons Super Monkey” shooter lately:

Major update just posted, need to get some new screenshots but here’s the high lights:

  • 10 power up levels all now reflected in the ship - small animations, opening panels etc (remember it’s a Raiden style power up system, so if you want to increase in levels you have to keep collecting the same power up, different weapons will keep you at the same level)

  • all new weapons graphics for player ship

  • new ui, power up display

  • new second level boss - though the second level doesn’t end, once you beat the snake boss, you’ve seen it all

  • various new graphics, death animations

  • power-ups on death

  • power-ups drift around the screen

  • Shields - or rather health of a sort - basically your power up level functions as a health bar also. So if you get hit, you lose a power-up level

  • various balance tweaks - though still some more to do (the triple short range bullet is insane fully powered up)

  • one bug is I think health hits are counting against your life counter, but for testing purposes you start with 99 lives so for now you should be fine

Please give it a shot and let me know what you think. It’s a 10MB webplayer so far.

It’s not bad, it’s a little slow paced and the player is a bit sluggish. I’m more used to quick and fluid movement in these type of games. It’s not bad so far though. Just does little to stand out on it’s own compared to other games of the same type.

Oh, yeah forgot to mention I’ve been mostly playing on a 360 controller, I need to go back an re-adjust the keyboard settings.

But pacing is an issue - actually level design seems to be a real weak point for me.

I guess now I need a plan

Yep, thanks for the point on the controls - I just had to change the sensitivity for the keyboard…first I had hardwired controls, then switched to controller - I slotted in the alternate controls for keyboards but had never gotten to checking them. Should be much better…not sure if the control centering should be a bit slower?

Gonna go ahead and say what has already been said and addressed, this game is way too slow :stuck_out_tongue:

Ya things are a bit too slow, and some enemies a bit too fast for it… but I must say I really like the start you have here. I was having some fun playing it. Well done! Can’t wait to see what this evolves into.

slow as heck. FPS seems ok, just the speed is slow.

My computer has issues with it. It randomly locks the controls and makes the computers screen go black, then pops back in the game. Did it a few times, then locked the game up completely (besides the music)

Was fun though.

Hmm, haven’t seen that yet. Was it when there were tons of bullets? For the shotgun weapon, that’s a lot of instances being created and destroyed, especially powered up.

So too slow - must be my withered old reflexes - but I’ll pick up the pace
