Maybe I totally missed something, but has anyone else received a notice that they need to renew their Apple iPhone Developer Program membership? I thought it was a one-time membership buy? Thank God the great folks at Unity do everything as a one-time buy-in. I know in my case that Apple didn’t make this very clear to me about their developer program. Unless perhaps I missed something completely.
I got one, too, and I also for some reason assumed it was a one-time fee (maybe because of everything else involved in signing up). Too good to be true, I guess.
It’s $99 a year. I had to renew back in May. You pay your $99, you get a code, and you enter that code into the correct link in the iPhone Dev Center. I waited until the day before my expiration, thinking I would be extending my second year, but the renewal system was actually not brain dead.
IIRC you get two ADC support incidents for your $99, so if you run into a weird problem you can get support direct from Apple.
Maybe it was different before, but when I signed up earlier this year, it was quite clear that it was $99/year. It’s common that memberships have a renewal charge; Apple’s Mac developer programs also do this. (Premier membership is $3500/year, so now $99 doesn’t look so bad, eh? )

It was never any different.
I signed up before the 2.0 launch and had to wait till past the launch and even back then it was a yearly subscription
I meant different as in “maybe it wasn’t clear before”, not “maybe it wasn’t $99/yr before”. Just to clarify.

For the longest time it wasn’t clear. I remember on the Apple forums there was a lot of speculation/arguments back and forth.
