Lately on my desktop Unity crashes when I try to launch it. Previously on my system I had an 8600GT 256MB and now upgraded to a GT240 1GB. I have not had this issue on my laptop. I have had another issue with my laptop and shaders which is documented in another thread.
I have tried reinstalling Unity however, after a reboot of the machine or a few other reboots it fails to load properly again.
OS: Vista Ultimate x64 SP2
Hardware: 4GB DDR2 Ram, Core 2 Duo 2.13Ghz, Geforce GT240 1GB DDR3
DEP? I am not sure what that is exactly. I forgot to post the crash error code. If it does it again when I get home I will post it. I’m currently at work on my laptop.
I tried reinstalling Unity again last night and have yet to see how long it will last before it wont load anymore.
If Unity gives you an error code when it crashes then it’s probably not DEP. I had a similar problem on my vista laptop and windows 7 desktop that a DEP exception fixed.
Looked in documents/app data/temp/Unity and found nothing but temp files which when opened say DO NOT DISTURB and have character gibberish. I just reinstalled Unity and logged off and logged back in and it crashes when clicking the icon, as always. It never runs more than the session I am logged into Windows when I installed it :(.
When I reinstalled it, it did not request to activate my software like it normally does. Could my activation be corrupt? I uninstalled Unity rebooted and then reinstalled Unity. :?
I reported the crashes with Vista through its problems and solutions center as it seems its a Vista issue. Unity runs without any trouble on my 32bit laptop. I didn’t have any issues until I reinstalled Vista on my desktop. Perhaps I need to reinstall Windows again :?
Resolved. Uninstalled Unity and waited 24 hours of normal computer use and then reinstalled(I had at least one reboot during the time Unity was not installed). Reinstalled after a day having it uninstalled and it works fine now. Seems to be a problem with Vista’s registry or a corrupt left over temp file most likely dealing with locating the last project open. After reinstalling Unity it instead of opening the Island demo it found my project folder and prompted me to choose a project to open instead of the default after install. This leads me to think that a corrupt path variable for a project caused Unity to crash on load being unable to locate what it thought was a valid project file.
