We will be on Kickstarter this spring. Very excited to bring this game to the masses.
Is this an official remake? really love this game, played it for hours when I was young.
I remember Firepower from Amiga, apparently its ancestor. Good luck for your efforts.
It will be called Return Fire. It will be the original capture the flag game with some updated graphics. It will have all the original music that helped make the game great as well. Look for it on Kickstarter in the spring. The platforms we are looking to release on are ios, 360, PC, and ps3.
Be sure to like us on FB as more updates are on the way. We are always open to any suggestions as well.
That didn’t answer his question. Is this a fan remake or an official remake?
facebook should not be the only point of entry to find facts about the game,
it’s pretty lame actually.
No the original developer has went under. I have secured the rights to Return Fire as the developer has no interest in the game.
I’m painfully ensure everything is the same with updated graphics and updated AI as well. The AI in the original for single player was next to nothing.
But I would call this official as I have the rights to Return Fire now.
The website is actually being worked on. Will be ready in a week or so with tons more details. I agree with you though FB should not be the only point of entry.
Thank you for the support Kryger.
Ah, I see. Good luck with the game and Kickstarter.
As long as there is a laughing skull when you die, I’ll be happy.
Antony just gave you a vote on steam to greenlight your game friend.
You bought the rights from them? Did he sign up a contract at least giving you the rights to the IP?
Without paperwork signed, it’s also illegal. I personally don’t have any money on this so I’m cool either way, just a warning. Copyright infringement fights can get very nasty very fast, and although copying the feel of the game is 100% legal, using assets from the original game would not be.
#1 I own the name Return Fire.
#2 no assets will be used from the 90’s game. All artwork will be new and updated for the current generation of devices.
You own the name, but do you own all other intellectual property from the game (including names and likenesses), or will you be changing everything?
You said it will use the same music, was that wrong?
Edit: NVM, saw your PM.
Yes I own the name. The artwork will be updated so no it will not be like the 90’s version in that respect. As far as the concept of the game it will be capture the flag with many many maps. It will have the same music as the 90’s version had as well. As far as names in the game? I have been playing the original some and there are no names used in the game for characters.
As far as doing the same concept. That’s done on a daily basis in the gaming world. Just because EA did Battle Field they don’t own the rights to that type FPS. If that was the case we wouldn’t have the 100’s of FPS we have now to play.
I hadn’t played the original. I didn’t know if there were any specific names or likenesses. It sounds good. Once again, best of luck.
Yes the same music. The game used flight of the bumblebee, and Ride of the Valkyries to just name a few scores. I have bought the rights to use all of those to use in my game as well.
Actually… it’s a bit more complex than that. EA does not have the rights for FPS like that one, but they have the rights to the music for one, but most imporantly, now they have the rights for any FPS like that has that feel AND also happens to be called Battle Field.
Copyright is about a combination of elements, not any given element independently. Even if you managed to secure a Trademark for “Battle Field”, you still don’t own the rights. You may be safe even with just a rename later on, if you were to get a cease and desist letter, though. So good luck.
