people who preordered unity 3 or the iphone / android addon can access it.
the free one will happen on release which happens when its done, as he has not access to it, he is likely a freerider and should stop screaming for getting something for free
UT is not garagegames, they don’t throw out totally broken, bug flodded trash and make you wait another 8 - 12 months before you can start using what you payed big bucks for.
Was it you who wanted to know if it was going to be released before your money cleared? Did you manage to get it sorted so that you could take advantage of current prices?
I’m not “screaming for getting something for free”. I was simply drawing attention to the fact that Unity Tech said Summer 2010 for Unity 3. To me, a release date of Summer 2010 means that everyone would have access to it, not just the people that can shell out the cash. I understand that there’s a lot of stuff that goes into Unity. I really do.
But when a company says one thing, doesn’t deliver, and then is silent about it…that bugs me.
And for your information, I have no problem paying for Unity when it becomes a real software development tool…you know, those things that you can use to collaborate on a project with other developers/artists/etc without a whole lot of trouble. Dreamora, have you ever tried sharing a project with somebody over Dropbox? The asset database gets pretty FUBAR sometimes. HUGE time sink.
That’s why I’m so anxious to see Unity 3. I’m hoping that it will have improved in that area.
They said “summer” for Unity 2.0, and Unity 2.6, and that didn’t happen for those either. (They both actually came out in October.)
When does software ever get released on initially announced dates? They’re not silent about it…they’ve repeatedly said they’ll release it when it’s done. “Summer”, as usual, was overly optimistic. I’m not surprised or even particularly disappointed, though earlier on it was looking like it might actually happen this time. But as someone once said, the first 90% takes 90% of the time, and the last 10% also takes 90% of the time…
Here’s another leak: your sales person was confused, although for quite understandable reasons.
Summer isn’t over for 8 days…they still have time.
Anyways, odds are it will be out pretty soon, or at least within a month or a month and a half. As excited as I am for the new Unity 3 features, I can still make games perfectly fine on 2.6.
Yeah, but realistically speaking it’s not gonna be out by then. Or at least they haven’t rushed things before to meet an arbitrary date, and I hope they don’t start now.
actually, software developer companies have their own time zone. 8)
for instance if they say summer, then in realtime means a couple of months later on real human time.
its always been like that, so it will be ready when its ready.
wow, i cant believe it, but i totally forgot about unity 3 until just now, i have been to involved in my own projects. Wow, i seriously can’t wait for this, i got to see these new updates first hand, hey Andeeee, Higgy, or aNTeNNa trEE, can you guys give us an update here plz?
I haven’t tried the Asset Server myself, but perhaps your team needs to also purchase that (happy as you are to pay to get a real tool).
I’m very happily using each new beta that comes out. Very glad I purchased it… and happy to see it become an ever better tool. It’ll never be perfect, but neither are any other tools (I tried about 6 before settling on Unity). Suggesting that some magic feature is suddenly going to make it worth paying for is procrastination. If your games don’t need any of the Pro features, you need never pay. Shadows were reason enough for me (and now I also love the Profiler).
So all in all it takes 180% of the time? Well I bet with those math skills, 50% of the time you are right every time? LOL JK
Anyway, did anyone concerned about the release date take into account the setback caused by Apple? I mean they all but shut down the Unity iPhone and iPad submission capabilities with all their “Rules” and it was just announced in the last ten days that they would “Relax” these rules allowing third party software to obtain or maintain compatibility.
You have to consider variables that Unity could not account for or even be prepared to combat.
