I have been working on this game for several days now and I have a lot done with it. It will be a pixel art style platformer, that would feature a fighting chicken as the main character. You will be given a jump and an attack. No double jumps, because chickens can’t do that. I might also feature a body slam, so that when you are in the air you can slam into the ground below, but this has yet to be decided upon.
During the level, you will collect feathers. When you get hit by an enemy, you lose all your feathers. If you get hit when you have no feathers collected, you die. There will be a gravestone where you die.
I want this game for all platforms, including that OUYA, and maybe consoles. But for now, ios and android.
I’m using Smooth Moves, NGUI, 2d Toolkit, Blob AI, and RageSpline.
Looks pretty good, really! Especially I liked punches - left, right, left, right… very funny!
How do you do the main platformer functional? I mean moving, collision detection (especially walking on the curve ground, like the first location when the game starts). Do you have a tutorial for that?
Thanks. I will have Rex turn into a rotisserie chicken but only if he dies from a fireball.
Rex has a character controller on him, with a custom built platform motor. I have a house system call Blob AI that interfaces with the platform motor allowing customization and tweaking of variables.
This looks brilliant! I love the animations and the whole concept of the game, was laughing at the animations (in a good way) for the chicken punching and kicking because i find they’re hilarious!
Thanks everyone for all the compliments. I’ve been hard at work with this project. I’ve got the menu worked on and a movie. I’ve also got some more programming done.
I’m looking for some good music for the game. So if any one knows of anything that might work then let me know.
Here is a video of progress. The audio is a little bit delayed.
Very nice story, I like it! But why do we see a stone, when the level starts? I thought it would be only if the Chicken dies.
And why does he punch the pig? Not big chickens who offended him.
Thanks everyone for following the project, but Rex is being discontinued…
Just kidding! I have a new update. A lot of the work is behind the scenes, as usual, but I do have some new work that you can see for yourself.
Here is the video:
I hope you like it.
I will have the chickens show up but maybe in a later level. Those chickens will be holding weapons that Rex can pickup and use himself. But we’ll see how well the game works with just a few levels.
I will have boss characters! Definitely on my list of must haves!
The sheep does look like a dog. I tried my best at making him look like a sheep but I guess I’ll just delegate that enemy to dog.
I didn’t use animated sprites for the bee’s wings, but I did for Rex. It all depends on what I need animated and what needs to be done. I used the Unity Asset “Smooth Moves” for all the characters. It allows for sprite animation and for puppetry, so I used both with this game.
Updates
Thanks everybody for your interest in this project. I have still been working on it. And soon I will be creating a Kickstarter project to see if I can get some upfront funding, and I’ll be handing out some very exclusive prizes. I’ll be posting some details later on.
Here is a video update, showing some more level design and more programming done. I’ve been working on a music ‘ducker’, where the music fades out temporarily while the sound fx plays on top of it. This prevents sounds from overlapping each other and sound bad.
So this is my Kickstarter Campaign preview page! This is just a preview, I haven’t actually launched the campaign just yet. I’m looking for feedback on what everyone thinks is fair.
I have included as many rewards as I can think of. All of them are in-game exclusive content.
Please tell me what you think here, or you can leave a comment on the kickstarter page.
So just head over there and check out all my great rewards. We are offering in-game content that will be remembered forever! This game is something that I am proud of. I’ve been cutting my teeth with over a dozen other games for the last two years and this is the first project that I feel is worthy of a kickstarter campaign. I hope everyone here can appreciate the rewards offered and make a pledge. I thank you in advance if you do.
