Rhineware - The MIR Incident

Hey Guys.
A while ago we have released our first GameDemo on Steam.
We want to present your constant progress here.
We are planning to improve our game constantly.

Update 2.1 is now available on Steam.

  • Player now starts with 2 companions.
  • Guides have been added to provide an easier start for new players.
  • Maps have been added for all levels.
  • Solar system (overworld) is now accessible.
  • First room in all levels is now accessible.
  • 100+ items (weapons, armor, abilities) are now accessible.
  • Improved camera movement and focusing.
  • New difficulties have been added (for experienced players).

Update 3.0 is planed for February.





Update 3.0 is now available on Steam.

  • Additional ‘Arcade Mode’ alongside the ‘Campaign’ is now available.
  • The combat system has been further developed and ‘Stamina’ has been added.
  • Stats teachers are now available.
  • New equipment balancing.
  • New achievements.

The next update is planned for May.

‘The Mir Incident’ Update 3.1 is now available on Steam.

Known Issues:

  • Lags in Horde-Levels on high difficulties when Vsync is active (due to large amount of enemies).
    A possible workaround is deactivating the Vsync within the options (can lead to small graphics distortions).
    We will try to find a solution until the next release.

General:

  • Character hitboxes have been improved.
  • Headshots now cause increased damage.
  • Limb hits now deal reduced damage.
  • Improved animations for raptors.
  • New music and sound effects.
  • New graphics.

Player:

  • Character classes are now available.
  • Ammunition is now significantly cheaper.
  • Auto-Equip when picking up items, if the equipment slot is free.
  • Ledge-Grab is now also possible while jumping/falling.
  • Quick-Loot is now available. (See Options)

AI:

  • AI now searches for healing when health is low.
  • AI now searches for equipment when nothing is equipped.
  • AI now tries to save itself via a Ledge-Grab when falling.
  • Companions now help with looting. (See Options)

Campaign:

  • English voice acting is now available (German will follow).

Arcade:

  • New arcade levels have been added.
  • Horde: Random events have been added.
  • Hunting: Player now starts with a random ranged weapon.
  • Riddle: Time limit due to escaping gas added.

Bugfix:

  • Excessive overlapping of sound effects should be fixed.
  • Performance drops due to too many sound effects should be reduced.
  • Performance drops due to too many AI characters should be reduced. (See Options)
  • Characters/AI walking backwards should be fixed.

The next update is planned for August.

‘The Mir Incident’ Update 3.2 is now available on Steam.

Known Issues:

  • Performance drops during Arcade-Horde-Levels due to a high number of enemies.
    Performance has been already improved, but is still not satisfactory.
    Work is continuing on this for the next update.Alternatively, the Vsync can be deactivated and switched to Window-Mode.
    This solves the performance issues.

General:

  • Improved character hitboxes.
  • Improved animations for wolves and dogs.
  • The monitor frequency can now be set manually in the options.
  • New graphics.
  • New music.

Campaign:

  • A German voice acting has been added.
  • The Forest-Level on Earth is now fully accessible, however still a work in progress.

Arcade:

  • A new arcade level has been added.
  • Player character head is now freely selectable.

AI:

  • Ragdoll-Effects for characters have been added.
  • The AI is now allowed more freedom of movement, less precise but smoother movements.

Bugfix:

  • Character flickering at the camera edge should be fixed.
  • Parallax-Background flickering on 4k monitors should be fixed.
  • Auto-Equip of spears and shields should now be possible.
  • Dead companions should have their full equipment back when reloading.
  • Characters looking backward during the jump attack should be fixed.
  • The map should be displayed correctly again when zooming in/out.

Performance:

  • Character collision detection should now be more efficient.
  • Sprite-Skins should now be more efficient.
  • Pathfinding should now be more efficient.
  • Ragdoll-Effects can be turned on/off via the options.
  • Post-Processing-Shaders can be turned on/off via the options.
  • Post-Processing-Shaders have been internally disabled for Horde levels.

Online-Multiplayer (put on hold):

  • An Online-Multiplayer was worked on for this release.Steam-Matchmaking was successfully implemented.
    Player characters were successfully synchronized.
    Destructible objects were successfully synchronized.
    Collectable items were successfully synchronized.
  • However, further development was put on hold due to a lack of resources.
    However, if there is demand, it can be reinstated.
    The necessary know-how and code are available.
    A complete online multiplayer implementation is estimated to take 6 months.

The next update is planned for November.

‘The Mir Incident’ Update 3.3 is now available on Steam.

General:

  • Project was updated to Unity 6.
  • Ambient-Occlusion has been added.
  • Ragdoll-Effects now also work during Knockback. (not for player/companions)
  • New graphics.
  • New audio files.

Player:

  • New character class ‘Infected’ has been added.
  • The character class ‘Boxer’ now has a chance to stun enemies.
  • The character class ‘Hunter’ now has a chance to ignore armor.

Equipment:

  • New equipment has been added.
  • Old status effect system has been replaced by a new one.
  • New status effects have been added.
  • New equipment attributes have been added.
  • Some weapons now have status effects.
  • Some helmets/armor now provide additional attribute values.

Campaign:

  • More rooms have been decorated in the ‘Forest’ level on ‘Earth’. (work in progress)

Arcade:

  • A new level has been added under the ‘Hunting’ category.
  • A new ‘Dungeon’ category and a corresponding level have been added. (work in progress)
  • In the ‘Horde’ category, the shop now offers a randomly generated inventory.
  • Levels in the category ‘Hunting’ have been redecorated.

Bugfix:

  • Twice displayed or skipped location information should be fixed.
  • Auto-Aim is now canceled when the player looks away from the target.
  • Incorrect parallax background lighting at night should be fixed.
  • Ragdoll-Effect distortions/twisting should be fixed.

Performance:

  • Most projectiles are no longer destroyed after use but recycled.
  • Pathfinding is no longer calculated continuously but only as needed.
  • Improved surface collider generation.
  • Ambient-Occlusion can be turned on/off via the options.

The next update is planned for February.
