Hi,
I need advice about what software should i use for rigging game characters for Unity.
My most important requirements are as follows:
The more flawlessly the rig/animation works with Unity the better of course.( can’t afford to spend more time and sanity wading through mud of compatibility issues)
The quicker the rigging process the better. Again time is a major player, also i’m not a professional animator, if there are pre made animations like walk/run-cycle that would be of great help.
It would be great if there was a feature to transfer the weights from quad model to tris model, since the triangulated model would be used for texturing and in the game, it would be much easier to rig the quad model.
Currently I’m thinking of 3ds max or Maya, the 3ds max CAT rig seems quite nice(I’m not sure if Maya has anything like that) but i’m not sure if it works well with Unity…
I’m not very familiar with all the options so any ideas are very welcome
At the End is easy fast and not such expensively like as maya or max
Also not so complicated to use how blender
Here is a example . I grabbed a google scetchup modell rig it in DAZ studio and animate it in iClone . You can see this generate fbx modell works everywhere fine .

btw DAZ studio has the most excellent weighmap brush that I ever use. I weighting the joints in my modell in minutes not in hours.
since I use DAZ studio pro I have fun to rigg every model.
But I think you get many advice to use blender now
on mixamo, you come not at over 10000 triangles , otherwise it cost 90$
Only a small preview window and not really a control about this rigg online .
Animations there not cheap
in iClone(sheen not cheap at the first look) but you get huge basic animation and content inclusive.
Easy acess to google warehouse (many free models)
you can the animation modify, create, and prepare with many nice Motioneditors in this programm (not worry about a complicated custom controll-setup)
