Robot Universe

hey everyone

i will give you a sneak peak of my first upcoming polished game Robot Universe. Here are some screens of a level that i was working on. It is a work in progress and it will look 100x better when i am done. tell me what you think. Ignore the white blob in the middle , its just a place holder for the main character. By the way this level is one of my first models fully made , UV’d and textured properly by me.

all feedback is good

thanks

Looks good, that robot is more of a gray color in 2 pics, you said it was white :stuck_out_tongue:
Hint: Ignore my second comment

UPDATE :

started working on the mechanisms that will be spawned during gameplay. Here is a mechanism that repairs your character. Called repair tower
texture is fully self made

tell me what you think ! all feeback is good

I like it! You should animate it so that the wrench spins and the red circles around the tower move.

ya great idea ! i am trying to get the meat of the models done first, meaning i am trying to get the models modeled out and textured. Then after the ones that will be most important ingame like the mechanisms, and eye candy will get animated. the truth is that i dont know how to animate yet. But once i learn i will integrate it

deleted please delete this thread if it bumps up

I would just make placeholder geo and get the game working first. Dont focus so much on textures at the moment. Right now you can tell there is some UV issues with some pieces getting more textel density than others.

um ya i was not too proud of the UVs of this model. As for the models, i am in charge of making all of the models while another person is in charge of scripting the game. A good chunk of it is already coded. And can you tell me exactly which parts have major mistakes in them so i can fix it.

thanks for your reply

Time to introduce some bad guys

the pics came out a bit low quality but please bare with me
tell me how the models are looking and how i can improve them . All feedback is greatly appreciated

Thank You

For someone’s first unwrapped and textured models they are really good. I think you can gain a lot by using some simple effects on the textures. Right now you just made tech kind of lines maybe you could try and add a glow or drop shadows to those lines a bit like the repair tower. You could also add a lot by baking in some shadows in the textures. There is still a lot to learn but you are on the right track, keep it up!

The squarry angular lines are all the same on all the robots textures : you could make variations or less lines on some ?

well i am running low on ideas and concept.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22165894/WebPlayer.html

here is a webplayer. Controls w s a d to move , pan mouse to look around . click to shoot. There is nothing to kill yet, the enemies are not programmed. so just enjoy the environment and look around tell me how everything looks .

And if anyone has suggestions on how i should populate the environment post here, i m low on ideas for some reason. The level is supposed to be an evil layer/ production line of dangerous experimental robots.

all suggestions are good, concept pics from google are better.

Everyone runs out of ideas sometimes, that’s ok, just don’t give up. If it’s supposed to be a production line, how about some conveyerbelts (like in some of the industrial areas of Half Life) or transport tubes (like in Portal or Futurama)?

Then you could have robot arms that place things on conveyor belts.

Are there switches for the forcefields? How do you get past them?

Maybe the conveyor belts help you sneak into the areas closed off by the force fields.
Maybe construction robots spray you a different colour that allows you to move through the force fields.

When I ran out of sci fi ideas, I found that just spending a few hours googling for concepts really helped - I also did some researching on industrial factories and robots - really helped me.

Maybe start fine tuning the stuff you’ve got so far?
There is still a lot to be done… imo
Maybe new idea’s come later!

The gameplay seems to have the camera quite close to the ground. The texture is way to big, or so to say there is to little tilement for an such a upclose view. If the camera is going to be that close you need a bigger texture or tile it more  Otherwise it looks like you have captures what you want good.

Is that evil red eye on enemies from the matrix thingies?
