Edit: As this project became a solo dev project. I decided to switch and make a permanent decision to pixel art. Look at my latest reply for more information
We are a team of 2 friends making a game inspired by Slay the Spire. There are still many things to be done…but we are happy with our progress.
Everything is placeholders for now. We plan to use ai for art but still did not define on what to settle yet.

I am aiming for a cartoonish vibe as paper mario games. The UI + cards will change to a minimalistic look. Haven’t decided yet…
I am not happy with the environment so far. Any advices will be greatly appreciated.
For the character/enemies i am happy with the results.
For comparison how it started.
This was initially a 2 man project. The friend that I was working with got burned out, did not want to continue with it.
I did not want to give up on the project so I will continue it as a solo developer.
As a programmer , my artistic skills are lacking. A LOT. I tried my hardest to develop them and improve but it felt like i was wasting tons of time hitting my head against the wall providing bad result after bad result.
After lot of thought…I decided to use pixel art with PPU 16 pixels.
Few reasons for that were
- Faster than hand drawn
- I have more assets than hand drawn
- I do not need many animations (just an idle sprite animation)
- I can modify existing assets without too much work
- It is cleaner in my eyes, better results
With that decided I was ready to go. There are a lot more improvements to be made as i m using assets but for start it can work out.
