Hey guys, I just wanted feedback for a RPG Game I currently have in development. Although the game content has been under development, we still actually need a story and name for our game so we can create terrains based on the storyline. I would like some feedback and suggestions of what you would also like to see in the game that would impress and satisfy not just you, but the whole RPG Genre audience! Thanks.
So… where are your ideas so far?
Typical RPG Game with NPC’s, monsters, dungeons etc. Making the game with some elements of Skyrim and World of Warcraft (MMO) together. However, I need somebody to give me some ideas to implement into my game which will make it better for people who would play it.
There’s a few people offering writing/game content services in the Commercial work/Collaboration forums.
Perhaps look a couple of them up and get them to spend a couple of hours writing something up.
Oh no… not another fantasy RPG…
Here’s the storyline for every high fantasy RPG.
Evil sorcerer conquers a distant land. He’s taking over the world. You have to stop him. (Add whatever fluff you’d like, but really, this swords and sorcery thing is being done to death.)
P.S. How can you be developing game content when the only thing you know about your game is that it has “some elements of Skyrim and World of Warcraft”? I think you may need to take a step back and consider developing a simple puzzle game… or Pac-Man.
I honestly think this should be compulsory reading material before attempting to create a story.
Tropes are not cliches, tropes are just commonly used literary patterns (the same way that we software developers have various code patterns that we can apply to different problems.) Knowledge of tropes allows you to more quickly create a high-level story, and be able to drill those high-level building blocks down to concrete details that your viewer needs to know.
Important - The Law of Conservation of Detail - Don’t add anything your guest dosen’t need.
Important - Villains - They drive your story, creating conflict. Heroes invariably react to this conflict.
The one thing to be mindful of? Most of the times in games, the Villain will fail, but in a way that is fun and challenging to the player. (Some exceptions, like Caius Ballad in Final Fantasy XIII-2 do exist, however!)
Take some of those tropes you can find - if you want an interesting story, perform subversions of some tropes. People will be able to relate (since the trope isn’t fully altered), but will still be suprised (because you’ve performed a transformation on this already familiar concept).
Hope that helps.
Everything has been “done to death”. The trick is to breathe new life into it.
Just to let you guys know, I am not 12 years old, I am not new to unity, I am not making this an MMO. Instead, I have 2 years unity experience, I am 16 years old and I am not one of those kids that just say “omg, lets make a massive RPG game and make millions of dollars…”. No.
I am the project manager of a team and we have many assets already, hundreds of lines of coding to make our game successful. We do not at all use ANY open source assets and all of our game assets is our own so we aren’t one of those teams that just uses free assets to build a game together. We are currently recruiting. However, I cannot post a thread in collaboration because of a weird error so that’s why I’m posting it in this comment although nobody will see it as good. So of you are interested and want to see images, send me a pm or add me on Skype: Brandon.barker13
I don’t think anyone has said that, and I’m totally glad you haven’t! However, the two points that you have posted about your ideas are:
A) It has some elements of Skyrim
B) It has some elements of World of Warcraft
…Both take place in fairly archetypal high-fantasy settings that are A) copies of previous high-fantasy settings, and B) are generously copied from themselves.
Add to this:
This suggests that, despite your two years of using Unity (which has nothing to do with story development, just using the engine), you’re simply out of creative material for the time being. As a game designer (which, as far as I can see, you too are executing ‘one-man band development’, which means you totally are a game designer), it’s your job to seek inspiration yourself!
I linked TV Tropes because it significantly helps me. However, I also apply my own experiences, opinions, and desires to my created works. That’s the key - it has to matter to you, or it simply isn’t worth the time.
Trust me on that one.
For some reason, I hate when people describe their game with other games… that’s fine for development purposes, but not for marketing.
Promo announcer: “This is the RPG game, it’s features is that it plays like these other 5 RPG games made prior!!!”
Just, no.
Putting that aside, he’s one thing I learned about life: “if you like something, then there’s a good chance that at least 10,000 people like what you like.”
So if you put in features you like then there will be others who will like it too.
Haha - I thought Borderlands 2 was a modern RPG that would never fit your description, but it’s essentially this:
Handsome Jack and his Hyperion Corporation conquer distant Pandora. He’s mining Eridium so he can take over the world. You have to stop him.
Regardless, it’s a fantastic game even though it follows that old formula. Much of that due to the humour, the characters and the absolutely outstanding voice acting.
I think I might have a name for you, but I might not know if you will like it or not but I was thinking of a game that should be called “☆ Chronicles of an Emerald Tale ☆”

The title is:
The return of the Dermelsann
The story is the following:
The Kingdom of Fallenmure is ravaged by war. Two factions fight to conquer the land. The Knights of the Sparrowbere Order and the Crusaders of Gilesdeen engage in an endless battle. Days pass, but there is no clear winner.
Additionally, each week, there are reports of strange disappearances in both camps. Rumors are that a mythical creature called the Dermelsann abducts the population. The King decides to send you to investigate and help prove that the Dermelsann has returned and is causing those disappearances. Your job is to gather 8 letters which should prove the existence of the creature.
Once you have proven the Dermelsann exists, you will need to get rid of it by making a summoning ritual. You will be summoning the Lord Esenmawn the only one capable of keeping the Dermelsann in line.
You will visit different areas such as:
-Swamps of Bloodwoods
-Castle of Fallenmure
-Ruins of Sparrowsilia
-Kenderberry Caverns
-Small town of Tallendon
-Firebrook Fort
-Camp Stratstone
Note: there are a couple of anagrams hidden in my story. Try to find them all!
How about a title “We need a potential investor”
