I’d like to see an RTS where one faction upgrades their troops with Animal traits eg. Gills, wings, snake fangs, bull horns, scorpion tail, hell Frog legs! Vs a Tech
faction where you can give your troops metal skeleton, jet pack legs, rocket launcher arms etc

I played an old PlayStation JRPG called Jade Cocoon that had a similar random monster construction. It seems like a good concept at first but I found the novelty wore off fairly quick. A few issues I’d see in making an RTS like this include:
- Marketability: you don’t have any real characters. It’s easier to sell Pikachu than random winged snake monster.
- Gameplay: An RTS game normally has rock/paper/scissors mechanics. Having random monsters makes it really difficult to know what to send that has an advantage over them. The characters are also too small to normally see any details like wings.
- Performance: Normally a character is just one skinned mesh. When you start having random parts you can end up with characters required lots of meshes.
- Art: Creating compatible parts / animations could be a nightmare. Spore seemed to do a good job but I can’t see that working with a large number of units.
- Cost: I suppose this could work with variations of multiple units but it would be really expensive to produce.
