Run time frame rate drops drastically if Game tab is on a separate monitor

Hey everyone. When I was using only 2 monitors the game tab was always docked right next to the scene and I would run it with “Maximize on Play” checked. The frame rate was always around 60 FPS.

Now I have a 3rd monitor and I tried running with the game tab on it’s own monitor but the frame rate tanks to around 2 FPS. If I move it back to the same monitor with the editor it goes back up to around 60 FPS.

I’m on 2019.3.0f3

Any ideas what could be causing this?

I found that running both scene and game views at the same time causes this. Also if something is selected and it’s updating the inspector, performance drops.

My suggestion is to do not have anything selected in the scene view during play mode, and also don’t have the scene view shown at the same moment. You may add another tab and select it on the first monitor just to hide scene view. That would improve performance a lot on editor, at least it’s what I experience here. The other window may be anything, another tab of Project, Animator, Asset Store etc.

If your project has lots of gizmos being rendered in the scene view it’s even worse.
