Running Unity3D 3.1.0f on Vmware Workstation...

Hi there, I was testing Unity3D free version on my development OS. I run it in a VMware Workstation session, as I like to be able to make complete backup of my development machine from time to time.

The installing goes as normal. But when I start up Unity3D the buttons/skins seems corrupted. I tried the same EXE install on another machine. No problem.

Is this a bug in Unity3D GUI/skins or am I not allowed to run Unity3D on a virtual OS? (which would be a bit annoying considering my normal development tools are installed in same virtual environment and works perfect).

I believe its the “virtual graphiccard” that might be the problem as its not nVidia once its virtual. But the VMware workstation runs on SLI 8800 GT’s and those old babies runs everything else great. I use multiple monitor setup might that be the problem or? lastly the virtual OS is a Windows 7 32-bit.

I really hope someone can provide me with a solution. At the moment I have to use a secondary machine for Unity3D development/testing and do manual backup. Ouch!

I am going to be trying this today. Found your post while trying to search to see if anyone has done it successfully. Did your pc have any hardware virtualization? Mine has the VT hardware, which allows virtualization to use the hardware more directly I believe.
