It’s nothing that fully works in any shipping version version of Unity. But it’s a build target for upcoming Google’s NativeClient platform (“a Unity game in Chrome, without having a plugin installed!”). Someday it will work.

As Aras wrote, it’s an abbreviation for Google’s Native Client (NaCl). Oh, and it’s the chemical symbol for sodium chloride, more commonly known as salt.
