Which is better overall https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/47418
or https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/11919
Which is easier, more efficent, more detailed, etc
if these 2 arent good what can you recommend?
Wow. I wasn’t aware that SabreCSG became open source. That’s yet another asset to add to my long list to check out.
I’ve tried Probuilder Basic and was extremely disappointed with it. It is much clunkier than blender3d, and didn’t allow me to have workflow I wanted.
I haven’t used Sabre, but I’ll definitely check it out now that it became open. Because honestly it sounds like what I had in mind when I thought about boolean level construction.
The short of it is neither is perfect on their own. SabreCSG is far closer to being a complete level building package, but it’s still likely you’ll have to export to a modeling program to seal holes and clean up geometry if you try getting too crafty with it. I haven’t played with it enough to know if it’s material assignment tool still works once the model is exported (which would ruin a bit of it’s usefulness if not).
PBB on the other hand isn’t much more than a taster for their real shit. It’s fine for playing around, but it’s not of any use on it’s own once you want to get shit done. Their full suite is a different story though.
I heard CSG like the source engine editor Hammer which i use alot back in the day to make cs go maps and play around in them is this any different?
Is there anything else you can reccomend thats easy to use?
No.
I’d recommend to try SabreCSG. I tried it myself today, it looks like it is what I wanted for a level design tool.
SabreCSG does the job I’ve used it a bit, sadly its not actively developed anymore should mention there is a new kid on the block RealtimeCSG… [RELEASED] Realtime CSG - level design for Unity - Community Showcases - Unity Discussions Probably worth trying out SabreCSG first and if you find it lacking then maybe look into the other one… its like €50 to me which puts in the category of do I really need it. I feel so many of these assets fail to price accordingly to indie market then they fail to gain traction and then abandon… its like well unless its really a must have to make a game then it really needs a good entry price… Modelling definitely being one of those things you can go outside of Unity completely and there is free alternatives like Blender picking up steam even if the current ux/ui workflow kinda sucks balls.
Also think its kinda shity that Unity is still not a great an engine if you make a game where you want to allow players to make levels for your game, ie workshop type stuff… like the source hammer editor days… I mean mapping for l4d2/csgo etc still goes on, but make a game with Unity and eh fuck that happening the editor provides fuck all tools for it really. Not to mention the entire asset stuff bleh.
Hmm. Might need to test sabre more before trying that one. Seems like there’s a lot of feature overlap between two of those. And sabre right now is free with source code available.
Unreal4 has the same problem. BSP tools are still there but are largely abandoned, and slow down (AFAIK) on larger levels. Worse, there’s bunch of anti-bsp zealots on Unreal forums, which is ridiculous.
You missed the sale then. It was approximately 30% off a few days ago for 24 hours. Gonna try both out today. ![]()
Yep sure is… https://forums.unrealengine.com/showthread.php?55228-(VIDEO)-UE4-s-Geometry-Mode-is-inadequate-when-compared-with-that-of-Quake-1 his video really does sum it up best… hammer editor had some nice things to it.
However UE4 does have a decent pipeline as far as allowing players to mod your game using UE4… Seen a number of games that offer toolkits that players can use UE4 to add additional content with. Only tried Ark and UT, but its nice to have that in an engine for a game you’re making. To do the same with Unity would be…well not much point oh you might need to buy this and use this etc, so the pipeline sucks as far making it easier for players to use Unity to add content for your own game.
pff 50% and I might have jumped onboard and been on the thread with suggestions.
